numerically rename images AND reorder numbers
Some user manuals may require close to 300 low resolution images in the epub file. There is a provision in the editor to "bulk rename" these images with (or without) a prefix. The simplest naming would be along the lines of "1.png, 2.png, etc. Most often these images are added into the epub such that their order in the book is not numerical. The first image may be 112.png. The second image may be 8.png. And so one. I was wondering if there is a provision to reorder the numbers into correct sequence.

Hmmm
You can sort 'Text', but not Images (same for Sigil? ) BTW Make sure you use leading enough 0's to pad the single digits to the same places that the highest number has. because this is an Alpha Sort, not Numeric I like to rename Chapter Number Images to Match their number |

If you mean number the images automatically in the order in which they appear int he book, no there is no such tool.

Hey Kovid,
You can Edit delete (image) files from REPORTS. How about allow a rename (that makes the same kind of adjustment as the file browser). Report shows you a thumbnail, so it might be enough to see for naming. Edit Image is the other choice, if the user needs to see a bigger view I realize this is not the bulk rename the OP asked for, but it might help speed things up. |

@theducks: Cant you do the same thing by just double clicking on the image in the file browser to view it, then renaming as needed?

In reports, there are thumbs in a list, so you can just walk the list. I am not sure how some publishers decided to name them in the first place (note: some have a very clear name), as they seem random. The other way, is to Unpack the book, rename using the OS (file tools) , then repair the book errors in the editor. |

This is a wonderful feature. I have gone through several books and reordered and renamed the images. When reordering the images in the list according to how they appear in the book is there a way to just reorder them and not also rename them? I have made a youTube video describing how to use this new feature.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsdllGy6400 I cannot thank you enough for adding this. Best regards, Pop |

Absolutely fantastic feature. Great job Kovid (and everyone else for coming up with the concept).
Could definitely see this being helpful in quite a few books, especially when merging things from all different sources. Last edited by Tex2002ans; 05-24-2018 at 02:46 PM. |
