Arguably the most successful expedition from the Heroic Age of Antarctic exploration, the Nimrod expedition under Sir Ernest Shackleton achieved the first ascent of Mount Erebus, reached the magnetic South Pole, discovered the path to the Central Antarctic Plateau over the Beardmore Glacier, and almost reached the very pole itself.

4. March 2012, v.2 : Fixed the most embarrassing snafus: Missing/misnomed photos, errors in toc, missing spaces in footnotes etc.

16. March 2012, v. 3: Whoops, the title is of course "The Heart of the Antarctic"

I wish some of the publishing houses would use you to edit their ebooks! A really first-class job.

I blush... In an effort make myself slightly more worthy of such fulsome praise, I've tried to fix the most glaring errors in the book.
