Title pet peeves

Taking inspiration from the blurb pet peeves, I thought I'd share another, and didn't want to go OT on the other thread:

Book titles. Or, more to the point, excessively LONG book titles.

Let me provide an example*

Quote:
PARANORMAL: Her Bad Vampires (Paranormal Vampire Romance) (New Adult Paranormal Romance) (The Third Triangle series) (It'll be Resolved--Promise!) (Book 1) (Episode 2)

By S.P. Arkly
Needless to say, if your book title goes of the edge of the Amazon search, it is FAR to long.

I imagine authors do this as part of "optimizing" for search...

In my opinion, it is a fairly certain sign of an author out to make a quick buck on current trends, rather than one who can tell a good story.

Does anyone else have any pet book title peeves?

*Completely fabricated - or at least I hope so!

Long book titles used to be all the vogue. Eg I have on my iPad a book about Egypt written by Giovanni Belzoni in the early 19th century which has the catchy title:

"Narrative of the Operations and Recent Discoveries within the Pyramids, Temples, Tombs, and Excavations in Egypt and Nubia; and of a Journey to the Coast of the Red Sea, In search of the Ancient Berenice; and another to The Oasis of Jupiter Ammon"

When it's published today (and it's still in print) it's generally under the title "Belzoni's Travels" .

I guess it isn't so much long titles I object to. It is all the "tags" and "series" and "episodes" that get tacked on that annoy me.

That title (the way it's presented) reads like a piece of spammy trash. I wouldn't touch it with someone else's 10-foot pole.

Single-word generic titles are my peeve. "Shattered" or "Chosen" or "Dust" or "Fallen" ... just don't.

I don't know if you like Ian McEwan, but don't discard his books Atonement, Saturday, Amsterdam and Solar because of their single-word titles.

I think the OP doesn't like the keyword stuffers. Actually on those it tells me those are usually copy and paste scamlets. The longest one I found was a cookbook. It may have been for slow cookers. It had (slow cooker) 7 times and (crockpot) 5 times.

In all seriousness, I hate trying to come up with a title. (And, I'm just not very good at it.)
