Calibre does not recognize my Kindle
Hello everyone.
I have reviewed the posts related to this problem but in none I have found the solution. I have also read Kovid Goyal's sticky post "My device is not detected by calibre", but the problem continues. My problem: CALIBRE 5.7.2 doesn't recognize my Kindle device. And this is my situation: 1. I have a Kindle Paperwhite. 2. Windows 10 (64 bits) does recognize the device, it appears in the file explorer. 3. Until now I was connecting the device to CALIBRE on a computer (Windows 10, 64 bits) that has never given me a problem, but now having a new computer is when it doesn't work. 4. I have tried on different usb ports. 5. I have all the Kindle-related Device Interface plug-ins enabled. 6. There is no device in Preferences / Ignored Devices. 7. I include in an attached file the text that appears in debug device detection (in Preferences / Miscellaneous). Can anybody help me??? Thank you very much in advance!!. |

The log shows calibre 3.8! Current calibre is 5.7.2. What version was on your other computer?

Perhaps updating to calibre 5.7.2 64bit from calibre 3.8 32bit might help. calibre 3.8 was released in Sept. 2017 so if your Paperwhite is a 2018 model, might explain why it is not seen.

You'll have to update your Calibre 3.8. It's too old to recognize your Kindle.

You are absolutely right, although a week ago I downloaded CALIBRE, and I assumed it would be the latest version !!
Thank you very much to all three (PeterT, DNSB and JSWolf) for opening my eyes !!! Last edited by JOTAELEBE; 12-15-2020 at 04:08 AM. |

caliber doesnt see my kindle
I think I didnt eject the paperwhite from the win 10 computer correctly. Now Caliber looks for drive H and can't find it. I
cant figure how to eject H because it shows up and then disappears fast. I think the problem is due to "the parameter is incorrect: H. what do I do? calibre, version 5.9.0 ERROR: Debugging failed: Running debug device detection failed. Click Show Details for more information. [WinError 87] The parameter is incorrect: 'H:' Traceback (most recent call last): File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 89, in run File "calibre\gui2\device.py", line 460, in _debug_detection File "calibre\devices\__init__.py", line 170, in debug File "calibre\devices\usbms\device.py", line 173, in total_space File "calibre\devices\usbms\device.py", line 150, in _windows_space OSError: [WinError 87] The parameter is incorrect: 'H:' |

Thanks for your reply. Im new at this. Before I was able to use calibre with no problem. Yesterday I got the "bright" idea to plug two kindles into the computer at one time so I could move a book from one to the other. something bad happened. 11 That caused two things I think.(1) The kindles were not ejected and both had to have a restart (long push on button) to become usable again and
(2) a mysterious drive H appeared in file search when I would usb the computer to the kindle. . A message would say "put a disc in drive H" this drive H would not stay on long enough to let me eject it. below is a recent bug log that might help Spoiler:

Ok. Thanks for your help. What I did wrong was corrupt something in the Calibre program. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and saw that my computer was seeing the kindle by its name again. . I ejected the Kindle, and got the message that there was something wrong with my drive, did I want msoft to fix it. I said yes; it did something and said it was fixed. And now, my problem seems fixed. So thanks to anybody who even read my problem and thought about helping.
