I am prepping for some travel (meaning trying to get ahead at work) so I haven't had time to look into anything this month but I will second The Alice Network, third One of Ours, and third Station X.
I will be out for a few days so the selections list may not be updated immediately with the vote when that time arrives. |

If we're offering suggestions for others to nominate, this one piqued my interest recently: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (I'm currently still holding onto my other two votes to see what else shows up, but I suspect this book is going on my list anyway.)

And also means you've read it already. I only came across it recently, and with a title like that I had to look more closely. It sounded very appealing to my tastes (I like a good epistolary work occasionally). Aside from conserving my votes, I also noticed it was quite expensive in Australia - at Kobo anyway.

The Great Halifax Explosion
I'd like to nominate The Great Halifax Explosion, a book that resonates strongly with Canadians, but also with the people of Boston, who to this day get their giant Christmas tree as a gift from the grateful people of Nova Scotia. Their assistance in the aftermath of the largest and most devastating, non-nuclear, man-made, explosion of all time is remembered to this day.

Good to know, thanks Catlady. I'm going to go with the eBook version this time around, though. There are pictures in the eBook (and pBook) that just don't come through on the audio book somehow.

I'm going to nominate And the Show Went On: Cultural Life in Nazi-Occupied Paris by Alan Riding.

By the way, I have no way of knowing, but that U.K. price (same at KoboUK I'm told) might well be promotional. If you have any interest at all, I'd strongly suggest "buying" The Great Halifax Explosion while it is free.

I second And the Show Went On - a fascinating topic.
So is the Halifax Explosion, of which I had not heard before, so I hope someone has a spare vote for it too, as I’m out of them now. |

I'll third The Great Halifax Explosion
ETA: It took me a while to remember where I'd read about this fairly recently: the event was described (but not in great detail) in Until I Find You by John Irving. Last edited by gmw; 07-03-2018 at 11:16 PM. |
