S&R on "selected files" and CSS

I was working on an omnibus epub: one made by merging several books, and at the first stage this had several CSS files, one for each individual book, linked from the HTML files for that book.

I wanted to make changes to all of them, but selecting them all and choosing "replace all" for "selected files" gave "no replacements made"; similarly "find" gave "no matches found". I had to choose one CSS file and do "current file".

Not a common situation I admit, but would be logical and convenient to have "selected" work the same for CSS as it does for HTML.

Selected files = Selected (HTML) files, functionally speaking. The issue has been mentioned before to allow different choices (all/selected CSS files for instance), but that portion of Sigil's logic is too convoluted for my brain to get a handle on yet. I may resort to merely changing the description to avoid future confusion.

OK.
So if it can't do what it says it should say what it does.

Done (though the tooltip for the drop-down already specifies the exact nature of the three options).

OK.
I never noticed the tooltip there; didn't seem any ambiguity in what "Selected files" meant. Also, pedantically, aren't CSS files also a kind of HTML file anyway? But the distinction should now be clear from context.

For consistency, the tooltip should also say "Selected HTML Files".

No, they are not HTML file, they are stylesheet with a different syntax and meaning. That the normal use is including them in a HTML file does not turn them into one of them. In the same sense, we could say that javascript, as it is included a lot of time in HTML files, would be a kind of HTML file.

It does say that.

"Restrict the find or replace to the HTML files selected."

I meant the title in line 1435: <b>Selected Files</b>

Yes, I would say that both CSS and javascript are a type of HTML.

Do you have an authoritative source for your opinion?

javascript is a lenguage itself outside of html (you can see PRS+ for Sony ereaders as an example, where html does not exist). And sorry, I don't need any authoritative source for it, only a bit of knowledge about the different into a protocol for showing information and a programming language.

Pdta: Do you have any authoritative source for the opposite?

No, they are both text files, but not HTML. There is a clear definition what is supposed to be in a text file for it to be called HTML, the same goes for CSS.

Agreed. Moreover, HTML is, by definition and by name, a Markup Language. Neither javascript nor CSS are. Javascript is--again, by definition and by name--a scripting language. CSS is simply a text file--it's not a language, markup or scripting, and it does nothing but provide style definitions for variously-defined elements, in an HTML page/site/web/eBook file. It's like a lookup table--the HTML document renders, comes across an element, checks the CSS, then renders it as defined in the CSS/Lookup table--then continues rendering on, lather, rinse, repeat.

They are not the same, and most people who are familiar with the three--and I don't mean programmers, just people who make eBooks, simple websites, or anything like that--know that they are not.

If nothing else, HTML files have various declarations (doctype, etc.) at the top that effectively make them HTML files, which the others don't. That alone would make the search limited to the actual HTML files.
