S&R on "selected files" and CSS
I was working on an omnibus epub: one made by merging several books, and at the first stage this had several CSS files, one for each individual book, linked from the HTML files for that book.
I wanted to make changes to all of them, but selecting them all and choosing "replace all" for "selected files" gave "no replacements made"; similarly "find" gave "no matches found". I had to choose one CSS file and do "current file". Not a common situation I admit, but would be logical and convenient to have "selected" work the same for CSS as it does for HTML. |

Selected files = Selected (HTML) files, functionally speaking. The issue has been mentioned before to allow different choices (all/selected CSS files for instance), but that portion of Sigil's logic is too convoluted for my brain to get a handle on yet. I may resort to merely changing the description to avoid future confusion.

OK.
So if it can't do what it says it should say what it does. |

I never noticed the tooltip there; didn't seem any ambiguity in what "Selected files" meant. Also, pedantically, aren't CSS files also a kind of HTML file anyway? But the distinction should now be clear from context. For consistency, the tooltip should also say "Selected HTML Files". |

No, they are not HTML file, they are stylesheet with a different syntax and meaning. That the normal use is including them in a HTML file does not turn them into one of them. In the same sense, we could say that javascript, as it is included a lot of time in HTML files, would be a kind of HTML file.

They are not the same, and most people who are familiar with the three--and I don't mean programmers, just people who make eBooks, simple websites, or anything like that--know that they are not. If nothing else, HTML files have various declarations (doctype, etc.) at the top that effectively make them HTML files, which the others don't. That alone would make the search limited to the actual HTML files. Hitch |
