Dulin, is using Pearl just a matter of changing screens, or does it require hardware and firmware adjustments? Also, if you know, what's the price difference between vizplex and pearl screens?

It's not a matter of just changing screens, switching from vizplex to pearl requires software adjustments. The same is true if the devices have the additional wacom layer with pen support.

So maybe this has something to do with the reason why PB isn't adopting vizplex yet. We still don't have the software to do everything that the hardware is capable of.

Yes, that's my suspicion, too. Maybe not using the pearl screens in the new devices is not a problem of money but of not having enough programmers (again).

Maybe it's the hardware after all? Look for example here, a SoC for ereaders:

And there's apparently a special driver for the Pearl screen. So it might not be simply a case of swaping screens, but having the hardware too?

Fact is, if the 9.7" Pocketbooks had a Pearl screen, I'd sure stop waiting for Onyx to get their act together.

What does Vizplex PEARL mean? I always thought, it was either Vizplex or PEARL but not both at the same time?!

Well, that was strange for me too; anyway Onyx already has pearl devices so it's hard to believe that it will return to vizplex display so I think vizplex pearl means pearl

They are all Vizplex. The newer, better screen is Vizplex Pearl. It is confusing. Think of it as like Kindle and Kindle DX.

They also have code numbers, like 2.1 for the older displays in PB PRO series, and PEARL is 2.2 (or something similar, ask Google for more informaton)

I read somewhere else that the older display generation is not that bad, as long as you add nice software-font-rendering-capabilities like anti-aliasing. Is that right? Is PocketBook working on this software-thing?

I already asked this on wanted features thread; I'm sure they are NOT working on this because natural (more like survival condition) would be first to release a pearl device then sf enhancements
