I've been away for a while. Could I bump this thread and ask for a list of Android e-ink devices, preferably available in the UK?

I have read that Onyx removed the USB handling of external keyboards from later firmware releases. It still works with bluetooth.

Nothing much has changed. The options are an Onyx or a Boyue. I still use a rooted Nook ST and it works very well for my uses, though I don't expect it to do heavy tasks.

Since you're asking about UK-friendly locations; here's some places that are EU-friendly to start your search.

https://www.icarusreader.com/
(Icarus, which I think--but I'm not positive--is the exact same thing as Boyue)
https://inkbook.eu/product-category/e-readers/
(Sells Inkbook)
http://ereader-store.de/en/
(sells the Onyx Boox)

would a samsung tablet in ultra power saving mode work - that mode removes all the colour , slows the screen refresh speed, and goes to shades of grey; and AFAIK their AMOLED screen tech does not use backlights.
could be worth a try if you can borrow one to test for migraines, before making an expensive purchase, as you'll struggle to get full android + e-inik

Hello there. I've been using an Energy Sistem Pro for eighteen months (rebranded Boyue, I think?) and got on with it very well; but it's now on it's on it's last legs and I'm looking to upgrade.

It would be useful to me to have something that would run the Kindle App, so I can use Kindle Unlimited without having to faff about. And being able to annotate ePubs easily would be helpful. I have no need for anything specialised to look at pdfs.

I'm looking at Onyx Boox ... but are the inkBooks worth considering too?

With thanks.

Boyue has released new ereaders. You can see them on banggood. The new one has a flush bevel screen. Its cheaper than the Onyx Kepler Pro.

Anyone considering the T63 should look at the pics in this thread. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho....php?p=3443856

It looks like there is not much brightness at all. I only use level 1 and 2 on my T62+, but after seeing these pics I won't get one.

On the other hand, if brightness is something that affects your eyes, the T63 might be worth considering. One of the things I love about mine is the low brightness. I find it very comfortable for long reading sessions.

I do have problems with brightness, but that picture looked like there was almost none. I only use level 1 at night and level 2 during the day and it looks like it won't get even that bright. But that's why I said that people need to check out the picture first - it might be ok for them. I know I would have been upset if I got it.

Thank you! I've gone for the Energy Sisttem Pro HD in the end. I think it's rebranded Boyue; I'll check when it arrives.

Nice three pages of information, thanks to all contributors so far.

I am also looking for a nice eInk tablet or Android eReader, but with the additional constraint of supporting mobile data (e.g. 3G or 4G in addition to WLAN aka Wi-Fi)

I have looked at the mentioned Onyx and Icarus devices, but as far as I can see, these only have WLAN, not mobile data.

Basically, I am looking for a device that allows (a) reading EPub (with and without Adobe-DRM) as main function, (b) has a usable PDF viewer, preferably with note-taking, (c) sent/receive text messages (SMS) and (d) as big plus allow installing of (Android) Apps for networked calendaring (CalDAV), addressbook (CardDAV) and other things. An "open" system with regular updates and third-party Apps / available SDK is a big plus.

Does such a thing exists?

I once had (and still own) a PocketBook 603, which has Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Unfortunately it doesn't run Android and the mobile data modem isn't accessible. And it's quite old and long out of updates. EPubs still work, still one of the best free-hand notes App I have seen so far. But its browser doesn't deal well with modern websites and the battery is slowly giving up.

( Just realized: 1st post since nearly five years (Feb 4th, 2012) -- man does time run fast!)
