Podkayne of Mars has already dropped, even though it's not yet the 20th. Couponable/VIPable at Kobo.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z76QMMW
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/podkayne-of-mars-4

Spoiler:
Quote:
A tale beloved by many fans of Robert A. Heinlein, Podkayne of Mars tells the story of a young Marswoman and her inter-planetary adventures with her uncle and her genius brother.

Told largely through Podkayne’s diaries, the story details her travel to Earth with her two companions. Podkayne has very definite plans on what to do and how to do it, but not everything is as it seems. She is suddenly thrust into the middle of life and death situations when the liner they are travelling on makes a stop at Venus.

The original publisher of this book asked Heinlein to change the controversial ending, which Heinlein did extremely reluctantly. He felt the original ending much better suited the story line and was never satisfied with the modified ‘safer ‘ ending. This edition restores the book to how Heinlein originally wrote it. It also includes a letter to his agent, decrying the changes asked for by his original publisher.

One of the latest Storybundles is the best of Joseph Lallo, one of my favorite authors (I already own everything in the bundle except the SB exclusives). The bundle is here: Best of Joseph Lallo.

One problem I have with this version is it uses Heinlein's original ending. I personally don't find the original ending as being suitable for the juvenile audience that the book was written for.

I don't usually follow/post much sci-fi/fantasy, but once the Asimov title in the US Kindle Daily Deal batch caught my eye, I also noticed Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson on the list for today at $1.99. The blurb says it's a winner of the Nebula Award for Best Novel, which sounds to a novice (me!) as if it might be worth posting. Also price-matched at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Red-Mars-Tril...dp/B000QCS914/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/red-mars-1

Spoiler:
Quote:
Winner of the Nebula Award for Best Novel • Soon to be a series on Spike TV

Discover the novel that launched one of science fiction’s most beloved, acclaimed, and awarded trilogies: Kim Stanley Robinson’s masterly near-future chronicle of interplanetary colonization.

For centuries, the barren, desolate landscape of the red planet has beckoned to humankind. Now a group of one hundred colonists begins a mission whose ultimate goal is to transform Mars into a more Earthlike planet. They will place giant satellite mirrors in Martian orbit to reflect light to the surface. Black dust sprinkled on the polar caps will capture warmth and melt the ice. And massive tunnels drilled into the mantle will create stupendous vents of hot gases. But despite these ambitious goals, there are some who would fight to the death to prevent Mars from ever being changed.

Red Mars isn't light reading but pretty good, I think it is still Robinson's best work. I think the bit about the upcoming TV series is outdated though, don't think that's happening anymore.

It was a novel that I could tell I should like, but I really just could never get into it.

Red Mars was not a fast read but I enjoyed the whole series. Not a lot of action but well done hard science fiction.
