power button stuck
I admit, I did something stupid. I had my cybook resting on my knee and it slipped and fell about 2 feet to the floor. The floor was carpeted but it was in a public building (and we all know how fluffy carpet is in public buildings). Well when I picked it up everything seemed to work just fine. But later I realized that the power button was jammed and it would turn on and off all by itself over and over all day long until the batter was dead. I have tried to fiddle with the power button with no effect. I tried also to unscrew the back of it and see if I could get inside and fix it that way, but I wasn't sure how to do it right without breaking it so I abandoned that idea. Is there anyone out there that could help?

Somebody wrote that the screws were under things. It seems to be three screws that are under a small plastic thing. There probably also is a screw inside the battery compartment.

The power switch seems to be spring-loaded. I wonder if perhaps the spring became detached in the fall?

Yes, the Cybook can be opened up if one removes the screws hidden under the rubber feet and in the battery compartment, but I doubt there's anything user-repairable inside. Derek |

I did undo the screws under the battery cover, but I couldn't figure out how to pop it open to look and see if I could fix it myself. |

Of course, removing the 'rubber' patches is probably going to be damaging enough to the 'rubber' as to negate any possibility of re-inserting them after you re-attach the screws. Derek |

UPDATE
I was able to pry the rubber feet out with a very small flat head screw driver, and then was able to take out the rest of the screws. When I did this I was still unable to pry the device apart, however when I undid the screw that was closest to the power button and then tried to pry it apart in that area, what ever had caused the jam unjammed itself and now my power button works just fine again. I will never drop this thing again! I was even able to put the rubber feet back into place and it looks as good as new. Thanks Derek for all your help! |
