I hope I'm not intruding by posting this. But I just couldn't resist.

I have the Astak EZ Reader 6" with the lastest rc of OI installed. I have also noticed that OI doesn't show me the folders placed in the internal memory.

I hope this helps improve this already marvelous firmware.

It looks like the JFFS2 filesystem was successfully created on the internal storage memory. That means what was there in the old FAT system is gone, but you should be able to reload books into /mnt/storage. Is your problem that you cannot reload your books into /mnt/storage, or that the files on the FAT system that was reformatted to JFFS2 are gone?

Eureka! I loaded my books into /mnt/storage and now OI displays them. Sorry, it was my mistake, because I was loading my books in the wrong directory.

I just looked at the installation instructions and noticed that the instructions have not been updated to describe what to do regarding the new JFFS2 file system. I will volunteer to update the installation instructions, based on my own experience, unless one of the development team would prefer that I do not do it????????

The reason that I thought that maybe "something" ought to be in the installation guide is because people may be a little surprised that all their book files vanish after doing an OI install unless they regularly follow OI discussions? That is different from doing a upgrade installation of the normal Hanlin based firmware, and is not specific to Linux, Apple, or Windows users. The resulting necessity to use SSH is already quite well covered in the User Guide.

For me, the rc5 works really great (I usually read html or fb2 files). Battery life is amazing. I had a reading break of 3 weeks. This used to drain the battery completely but not anymore.

I was surprised by the LED activity once the bookshelf is visible. Is there something running in the background? It's kind of irritating because I don't expect any activity.

When I read the guide just prior to my orginal post, I jumped immediately to "Flashing firmware" and completely missed the BEWARE under "Hanlin v3 and v3ext". So I guess nothing really needs to be done except to get people like me to read more carefully.

I believe you're both right because there are two issues here.

1. It's clearly stated in the Installation Guide that the internal memory will be reformatted. I expected this.

2. My difficulty occurred when I wanted to reload books into the internal memory. After reading the Users' Guide and seeing no mention of this, my natural inclination was to load my books into the root directory. In one of Dave_S' replies to my queries, I noticed he mentioned the /mnt/storage directory. This was the information I needed.

In my humble opinion, I believe this small piece of info should be mentioned somewhere. I suggest placing it the Bookshelf section of the Users' Guide, after the following sentence:

"Disks menu provides access to all disks on device (e.g. SD and internal memory), recent files list and favorites list."

At this point, a sentence along these lines can be added: Load your books in the root directory of the SD card and in the /mnt/storage directory of the internal memory.

You guys have a great community here. Keep up the excellent work. Now back to a lazy day of reading.

I should make it clear that I am just an ordinary user of OpenInkpot and not a member of the team doing the real work. The guides are part of a Wiki, so all users are free to login and edit the Wiki to provide clarifying information. I have been trying to learn to provide what information that I have, and am sure is correct, to the Wiki and dottedmag has been kind enough to point out my mistakes and clean up after me on occasion. That being said, I will be happy to make the edits that you suggest if dottedmag agrees that what you suggest is a good way to do it. OR, if you are so inclined, you could make your own clarifications since you now know what your confusion was?

Wow, thanks for beating me to it I hadn't checked in a day or two, and the problem seems to be worked out. Awesome.
If not flashing the firmware, though, but using OI-on-SD, the internal is not formatted to JFFS2 I would gather? If not, then the conclusion is that I need to flash the firmware rather than OI-on-SD for this to work. Uber happy with it btw.
