Another vote for Sansas. I own the Sansa Clip and several Sansa Fuzes, plus I own three other earlier Sansa models that are probably no longer available. They all work great. The Fuze is larger and easier for me to see and operate with gloves on, and the screen holds more info, so I prefer the Fuze for most purposes. The Clip clips to my t-shirt when I'm at the gym and this is handy. Sound quality is excellent, I don't have to install iTunes, and they work with Audible stuff without me having to figure out how to strip DRM. Since they cost so little, I don't worry about loss or damage. Not that any of them ever get damaged. I frequently use them on the motorcycle, which is a harsh environment for electronics, and none of them have ever given me any trouble.
