Can CC work "offline", ie not connected to Calibre?

Quick question on Calibre Companion for Android: is it possible to use it in some kind of "offline mode"?

Ie is it possible to download the library (the metadata, not the entire books) on an Android phone or tablet, then browse and/or search it when not connected to the PC running calibre?

An example would be searching and browsing my library when I am on a plane, underground train, etc.

Thanks!

This used to be possible on Android (local copy of Calibre library/metadata.db). Not sure if it's still doable after Google made sandboxing stricter.

What does that mean? Could you please elaborate? Thanks!

CC runs fine standalone. Its purposes:
1)manage the local (device) Library
2)Connect to Calibre or cloud image of the calibre library

mode 1 requires NO connectivity for you to search or choose books from the local CC Liibrary
Mode 2 is HOW you get books to the local library

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't mode 1 only work for books downloaded to device?

Older versions of Android allowed full access to the SD partition. Calibre Companion has an option for connecting to local library. What I used to do was copy my Calibre library to microSD and point Calibre Companion to that folder so I have my entire library with me.

I don't know if that's still possible on newer Android firmware.

Thanks.

Is method 1 this? http://cc_faq.multipie.co.uk/index.p...=83&artlang=en

Does method 2 keep a copy of the library on the Android device, and can CC therefore be used offline (just to browse the library, not to read books)?

Yes. If it wasn't, then there would be no need for CC. The user would just use the content server.

Neither, really.

That is giving you a limited LOOK at the metadata. That article lists the limitations.

My method 1 is simply a CC created Library, with books and covers that lets you search and pass books to the designated viewer. CC is a Librarian
You need an ONLINE connection to get NEW books from Calibre or to search Calibre for books (not in your devices CC library)

No it doesn't. You'd need to copy metadata.db manually and point to its location as local library in CC. Obviously, no covers or books but will work for just browsing titles, authors, tags, comments, etc.

The local library is pretty much what's described in the link you posted.

Again though, I'm not sure if newer limitations on Android firmware would prevent/hamper this functionality.
