Right-handed or Left-handed? Please help.
Most of the world is right-handed. The figures vary, but lefties average about 15% of the population. But we ex-pats noticed that our numbers suggest above 30% of us are lefties, as are artists, explorers, musicians, and several other specific areas of humanity.
This got me wondering about 'readers.' How do we compare with world averages. Are you a lefty? Right handed? Or ambidextrous? Stitchawl |

I'm right-handed, but one of my two siblings is left-handed. I do occasionally write with my left hand and concentrate on playing piano melodies with my left hand just to give my brain a workout.

I am predominantly right-winged, errrr, handed. But am fairly ambidextrous - I can operate a calculator/adding machine with my left hand, shoot basketball with my left hand, etc.

So far, we're right around the statistical norm... But with only a few of us responding, the figures don't mean so much. I'm hoping for 50-100 responses to make it more accurate.
Our informal ex-pat poll had over 200 people asked, with 70 being left-handed. This might be interesting... Stitchawl |

I am left-handed, however, life has made me ambidextrous. Although, I use the mouse on my left and and the ten-key on my right and write with either.

I agree with this (and am also a lefty who is fairly ambidextrous due to the general right-handed-ness of life).
I, however, prefer to use my right-hand for the mouse. I want my left hand free for making notes, if necessary. |

Strong and only right handed. Unfortunately as is often with people like me my creative abilities trend towards zero.
My two half-brothers are both lefties, one is a gifted musician, the other a fairly good painter, my abilities are more on the technical side. |

Wow! Interesting-er and interesting-er! I know 21 people don't give much accuracy but... Already almost twice the statistical norm!

Not sure how to answer as I was forcibly converted in school. I eat left handed but that could be from extended time in Europe. I use screwdrivers with my left hand, go back and forth with hammers. Any cutting instruments I use right handed. I am definitely right eyed. My son though who is very dominant right handed is extremely left eyed.

Might be due to the topic of this forum, computerworks is considered to be more creative than technical.
Just look around how many people here are writers, poets or painters. This poll would be even more interesting compared with the results of a similar one from a forum dedicated to something pure technical, like car engines or rocket science |

I'm left handed, but have found it useful to be able to control the use of both of my hands in tasks like mouse handling, bag carrying etc.
I don't think twice about using either hand to pick up stuff with, but decided early on only to use my left hand to write, although I was encouraged in the school environment to be able to write with both hands. However, one thing I definitely can't do is use scissors with my left hand ... nope, has to be my right hand; I predominantly use my right hand with the kitchen carving knives. Also, I was told very early on in life that it's impolite to eat 'left-handedly' at the table, and that it would draw attention to my handedness - so I was taught to always eat right handed. My father, a very strong left-hander, was bashed by the Nuns when at school every time he used his left hand to write, or pick anything up. He was a very bad dyslexic and I believe that that was the reason. BTW, I don't have any obvious creative talents, although I've been told by some that I'm an 'original thinker' ..... which I presume at the time the statements were made (in a higher ed situation), that it was meant to illuminate my knowledge about myself -as opposed to a statement of deficit. So - perhaps that's what my left-handed attributable creative is: originality in certain situations. (Pity it wasn't entrepreneurship along with it, drat!!)
