Sadly, I can. B&N makes exactly $0.00 from our side-loaded content, so why should they expend any effort to help that function?

So that people who cannot buy B&N content (anyone not living in the US) would still want to buy their device?

Then again, if they're like amazon, B&N probably doesn't make any money directly from hardware sales.

Anyhow, it's exceedingly shortsighted of them. Having problems with sideloading doesn't mean people start buying B&N content instead; people just turn to other devices, having been burned by Nooks.

Especially since it's virtually impossible to get nook ebooks on other ereaders

This. To B&N it’s not an ereader. It’s a product delivery device.

I think this is being exaggerated a bit. Several users on this forum are using the Glowlight 3 (and 7.8) with side-loaded books.

I believe their implementation of this partition is either very poorly done or that android doesn't really support this kind of thing very well. What ever the issue is I can't believe they would release another reader without fixing or changing it!

I had tons of corruption issues side loading books onto the spsd but I've since installed Calibre Companion which saves books on the regular android internal partition (CC doesn't see the spsd partition at all) and I have had zero corruption issues.
If this is plugged into the PC, how many drives/partitions do you see in Windows Explorer?

Only the spsd (SD Card) partition shows up.

Also books side loaded on the normal internal partition aren't scanned or added to the nook library software but you can use calibre companion to open a book using the nook reader app.

This is using USB UMS (USB Mass Storage).
It's an antiquated and horrible way to share storage.
It's like handing your precious hard drive to a stranger and saying, "Oh, be very careful with the allocation tables and the indexes."
It's better if only one computer is responsible for all that stuff.
I don't want to unmount and remount volumes just because a cable got plugged in.

The MTP and PTP protocols were made to address just such an issue.
The ADB file transfer protocol works well too and is natively supported.

As far as what B&N notices/recognizes as books has to do (the last I checked) with the MediaScanner.
This unmounting/remounting stuff of UMS makes things more complicated.

Me? I keep all my sideloaded books on my desktop and sync them over ADB using adbsync.exe

Takeaway from the goodereader review, they liked it.

I read it so you don't have to.

Thanks for the link. Good E-Reader is not normally my first stop, but this seems to be a pretty complete review. One thing mentioned in the review is that the Glowlight 7.8 does use IR not capacitive touch.

It does not have a capacitive touchscreen display, instead it is employing Neonode zForce IR.

I don't know what "Neonode zForce" means, but this would probably account for the fact that the screen looks almost identical in clarity to its smaller brother, the Glowlight 3. And, according to the review, it has 19 LEDs, 10 "blue" ones and 9 orange-ish.

"One of the features I liked was auto hiding all of the samples loaded on the Nook and uploading sideloaded content to the Nook Cloud and being able to delete them from the e-reader.

I'm not sure where he found that. I have not found any way to upload sideloaded content to the Nook Cloud. However, they did make it easier to remove B&N content from the device without having to archive it. That was my main complaint with my Simple Touch. Once it got full, you couldn't get anything off without archiving, which was a real pain.
