Hot Doug's: The Book by Doug Sohn with Kate DeVito, featuring an introduction by Graham Elliot (Wikipedia) and additional contributions by notable local figures, is a humorously-oriented commemorative combo platter memoir, trivia & history book for hot dogs both in general and in particular those served in the titular Chicago-based specialty restaurant (Wikipedia), free courtesy of publisher Agate's Midway imprint.

This is actually pretty nifty and looks like it'll be a fun local business/cultural history read from the initial skim, even if some of the colour choices for visually distinguishing the sidebar essay-ettes in the e-book version are kind of unfortunate. The cover notes that Anthony Bourdain (Wikipedia), who featured the restaurant on one of the episodes of his show, calls it quote-unquote "one of the thirteen places to eat before you die".

This has previously been offered free in 2013, and again earlier this year.

Stories included will reveal fact from the folklore of the restaurant's founding, retell the tale of Hot Doug's infamous 2006 run-in with Chicago City Hall, and even provide accounts of Hot Doug's-inspired tattoos, which if presented upon order privilege the bearer to free hot dogs for life.

Contributions from some of Hot Doug's biggest fans will be spread throughout the book, with raves from Paul Kahan, Steve Albini, Dan Sinker, Mindy Segal, Homaro Cantu, Aziz Ansari, many other local and national figures, and an introduction from Graham Elliot.

I finally got to Hot Dougs about a month before it closed. We waited in line almost 3 hours. Rather idiotic. By the time they closed, the lines had gotten in excess of 8 hours long. Not quite sure how they got such a cult following, there are better places to have fancy frankfurters in Chicago.
