Implemented:

Readers:
1. Increased speed of screen updates while flipping pages in epub format.
2. The possibility of setting size and typefaces (except built-in) regardless the format was implemented.
3. Added the ability to edit the search query by clicking on the search icon in the search results.
4. Implemented indication of the current orientation when calling the option Turn.
5. Improved user interface of books’ content.
6. Redesign of mechanism for calculating fields in text formats.

Library
1. Added a quick transition to the beginning and end of the list with a prolonged touch on the up/ own buttons(screen and hardware keys).
2. An improved scrolling in long lists.
3. Implemented insensitive search.

Settings:
1. Added by default an automatic enable of time update.
2. Redesigned authorization mechanism of the store.
3. Improved mechanism of return from the Settings to the application from which it was called.

Other:
1. Added ability to delete events from the main menu notifications of recently added and downloaded books.
2. Added the display of the number of new notifications at the status bar.
3. Changes in time zones to support a new system of calculating time in Russia.
4. Improved automatic connection to Wi-fi spots.

Fixed:

Readers:
1. Text in books of the fb2 format moved up after entry of page number through the keyboard.
2. Note made with a pencil displayed on the status bar in pdf files.
3. The status bar was duplicating after shutdown of the window «Read mode».
4. In some books of djvu format page numbers in the content and in the note list were displayed in descending order, rather than ascending.

BookStore:
1. The numeric keypad did not changed into the full at the recharge form at the BookStore.

I'm still at 4.4. I know that I would give up a lot of flexibility if I move to 5.x (e.g. the loss of extensions.cfg). But on the other hand, what would be the advantages of 5.5 over 4.4?

Not much I guess...
I prefer FW5 because the browser works better and screen updates seem to be faster (or maybe it's just a false impression).
The "Open with" option is useful but I can live without it as long as the library uses the first app in extensions.cfg.

Yes. Alternative readers can be used.

There still is no Open with option but the first entry in extensions.cfg is applied.

Well, that means I would need to connect my PB626 to the computer and edit extensions.cfg each time I want to use another reader. Not practicable. I use CR most of the time but I don;t want to be restricted to it.

No,

you can install epubinfo.app. http://www.mediafire.com/download/di...j/epubinfo.zip
Edit extensions.cfg and include epubinfo.app as the first place.
In parameters -> Personalize -> Default reader for ePub -> set epubinfo as default.
Then the first time you open a book, it will open with epubinfo. you will see information about the book, then a long press on the screen and you will be able to choose which reader you want to read the book.

Take care if the book have been already opened it doesn't work. So you need to close the book and go to the library, and then do a long press on the book, epubinfo will start.

Compared with 5.5.515 - a lot of small bug fixes in the reader and camera

I suppose it's the same for PB626. Only small bug fixes.
