Kindle MatchBook
COMING SOON—For thousands of qualifying books, your past, present, and future print-edition purchases will soon allow you to buy the Kindle edition for $2.99, $1.99, $0.99, or free. Now THAT sounds interesting to me. That would almost have to be across the board, wouldn't it? (as opposed to just for the new PW) |

No mention of it on the UK site, but the PW has vanished. Hopefully they won't make we Britons wait as long for it as they did for the Touch.

I can see an image of the "New - Kindle Paperwhite 3G" but the link for pre-order isn't active yet. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AWH595M/ref=fs_cl

I found a better link to the New Kindle Paperwhite 3G version - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BTI6HBS
It says it will be released on Nov 5, you can't order yet, it only has e-mail notification. Last edited by JoeC; 09-03-2013 at 12:24 PM. Reason: correction |

That will very likely require a coding change in books to implement. At the moment a footnote is just a hyperlink - the device doesn't "know" that a link is to a footnote rather than simply a jump to another part of the book. Something will need to differentiate the two.

This footnote feature is really interesting. The footnote usually lasts untill the next similar hyperlink, that would be an indicator to know what the exact text of the footnote is. I think it should be possible to analyze this automatically. If that works well that would be a huge point for Amazon.

It's obviously not a mistake releasing the order page for the All New Paperwhite today as its now on the comparison page and listed in the row of Kindles along the top of the page.
I can't understand why there's no announcement on the front page of the Kindle store, if no other announcement |

Many academic books, however, have endnotes which can be many pages long. You really wouldn't want to display those as a "pop-up". |

With Kobo (kepub file) if the pop-up is too small to read the footnote, you tap on it to go to a new page. From there you tap on a "back arrow" to go back to the page you were reading. Maybe Amazon will offer something along those lines.
