FREE / BARGAIN genre threads
Is there any reason why the FREE / BARGAIN genre threads are monthly?
Generally the freeness of the entries is short (a day or two), so jumping to the end of the thread is all that is necessary to get the current ones (mostly). For the others, jump back a few pages... |

Couldn't we, in future, separate out Fantasy from Science Fiction. I love sci-fi, but hate fantasy. It's very tiring trying to weed out all the fantasy cr*p from actual science fiction.

Please, please, separate out fantasy from science fiction. I hate fantasy, but love science fiction.

I don't care for much fantasy, but the problem is there's an overlap. Some stuff is fantasy AND science fiction and some stuff has elements of one or the other in a setting predominantly the opposite. That's why they get lumped together basically everywhere.

And why in the world doesn't the very popular and informative "Current Audiobook Specials" thread get a sticky when they're being handed out to just about every other thread?
Of course, even better would be an audiobooks subforum. |

Personally, I like a combined SF/F thread. Read both and don't want to go to two different threads to check listings. And what do you do with listings that crossover Science Fiction and Fantasy. List it twice?

Yep. Mentioned this on the other thread. There can be a bit of overlap and if they're split out, it means that the books will be posted twice. Leave it the way it is.

Sounds like it'd be quite a battle to decide if that's the proper name for it or not.

For example: Star Wars-- considered science fiction, despite a distinct lack of science. Dragonriders of Pern-- technically science fiction, though there be plenty of dragons, a staple of the fantasy genre.

I just don't see the point of stickies for monthly threads. Are they all going to be forced to abandon the month label? Are they going to be sticky for only the current month, then replaced with a new sticky?
All I know is that now, with the change, I have to scroll down a full screen to get to the audiobooks, the poor stepchild of the forums. |

I agree with the changes to the location of the monthly threads, that is that they be placed into the Sticky area for the duration of the month that is discussed.
I suspect that some others need to be included such as Audiobooks (if it doesn't get it's own sub-forum as some are suggesting). The reason I agree with the move to the Stickies area is because I don't like trying to wade through all the individual titles being posted as threads when they could quite readily be posted into the monthly genre threads. ATDrake's single book posting barrage is a prime example .... If everyone decided that the book they found at a cheap or free price was to be given it's own thread then sifting through the stuff that doesn't interest one to find any that do would be a tedium. At the moment one can block seeing another member's posts, but not block seeing any threads they create, so one can't readily block out that which doesn't interest them. |

Stephen Brust's Taltos and Khaavren Romances could go either way.
