Customizing calibre metadata for generated files

I just created a custom recipe for a site, and the resulting ebook was automatically tagged with "News" as well as the feed name. I disabled the latter under the advanced options when scheduling the recipe, but can't find any way to prevent the "News" tag from being applied. Is that possible? In a similar vein, is there any way to customize other metadata on the generated file (eg author)?

You cannot change the author or the news tag as these are both used internally by calibre for recognizing news and auto-sending it/deleting it, etc.

You can use ebook-meta at the command line to change things after generation

It wont make a difference those metadata values are overwritten att the time the news file is added to the calibre library, it does not matter what metadata is present in the news file.

BTW:

Is it possible to set values to user_defined values to the opf_file (f.x. #recommend-to)? If so: where and how
