Author Sort

I tried searching for this, but I couldn't seem to find the answer to my question.

When filling out the metadata for author sort, how do you separate multiple authors?

For instance, when only one author:

Author(s): John Smith
Author sort: Smith, John

But how would you do multiple authors? For example:

Author(s): John Smith, Sue Smith, Jo Bloggs
Author sort: [I tried using the following to separate but they didn't work: ; / &]

Or perhaps the case is that you don't list multiple authors and just the first author?

I'd love any help and it would be much appreciated!

Thanks a ton.

There should not be a ‘,’ following each ‘&’ symbol.

[QUOTE=booksandbooks;3669654]So, do you mean like this?

I suspect the &, was a typo. Use & alone in the author field.

Author: Hong Gang Jin & De Bao Xu & James Hargett
Author Sort: Jin, Hong Gang & Xu, De Bao & Hargett, James

If the Author field is correct, the Author Sort field should be correct when you click on the > after the Author field in Edit Metadata.

If you find issues with the author sort, you may have to go into Manage Authors by right clicking on Authors in the Tag Browser and then Manage Authors (useful when calibre has issues with complex author names such as L. Sprague de Camp where you want the author sort to be de Camp, L. Sprague and not Camp, L. Sprague de).
