I installed the stock firmware on my old Elipsa, and have been pleasantly surprised. I've been patching for years, so I thought I'd really miss the patches, but it's not bad at all. Perhaps Kobo has been subtly improving the firmware, and I never noticed because I routinely applied the patches before doing anything else. Anyway, I'm waiting patiently for the patches, but am also considering not applying them if and when they do show up.

Thank you, I must have missed that. He's a busy fellow - hopefully, it's a matter of when and not if. I've got a 2E arriving this week and hope to apply some patches.

Well, I'm not on Windows, but you've got to the heart of the matter. My Mac's system unzip routine is adding the directory. Other Mac unzipping apps do the same. Probably being helpful instead of creating a potential mess. The problem was that, as I said, I haven't done a manual update in quite some time, so I forgot that I used the shell to do it before.

As you can see, when using the shell commands from Terminal, no external directory is wrapping the content. If I had done this instead of lazily double-clicking and click-dragging the folder over to .kobo, I would've been fine. That'll teach me to do geeky things at four in the morning.

It only took me a second to realize what had happened, then another few to correct it. My BIG mistake was posting a sleepy question here. Look at all the helpful responses I've received for a braindead mistake that I had already fixed!

Yes, I'm around, I'm just very, very, busy right now (work, school, some other unrelated projects). The patches for this version will happen eventually (it's not a priority for me rn), and when a version is released for most devices, that will happen within a week.

4.36 download, unzip, copy to .kobo, restart, reinstall.ps1 + koreader, restart, finished. until now it works perfectly.
