Ashes and Bones is the sixth Emma Fielding mystery by Dana Cameron. It’s $0.99 in the US right now.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VYX8NG
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/ashes-and-bones

Spoiler:
Quote:
Just when everything is going beautifully for archaeologist Emma Fielding -- a position at a respected university, a beautiful home in New England, and the warm love of a devoted husband -- her world starts to crumble. What begins as a series of seemingly innocent gestures -- the anonymous delivery of gifts and flowers to Emma's family and friends -- soon progresses to secret, sadistic acts designed to destroy her reputation, her character, and her career.

Someone has instituted a brilliantly insidious campaign of personal terror against Emma Fielding, and she is certain she knows who it is: a cunning and dangerous enemy whom everyone but she believes is dead. But with no proof, no clues, and no allies, Emma will have to fight alone in the dark to rescue a life being rapidly reduced to ashes . . . if she can survive long enough to do so.

Today's Joffe free book is Trust Only Me, which is a psychological thriller by McGarvey Black.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPMLC6HM
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BPMLC6HM

Spoiler:
Quote:
From her home office in rural Connecticut, self-published thriller author Jillian Samuels dreams of writing a bestseller.

Her tall, dark and handsome chef husband Teddy, and her BFF, Natalie, a glamorous PR executive, always in six-inch heels, are Jillian’s biggest fans. They’re as happy as she is when her new book, The Soul Collector, is accepted by a New York agent.

By night, she writes about serial killers. But then her stories begin to come true.

Not long afterwards, crimes from her old thrillers start to really happen — two bodies are found covered in silver paint — one unconscious, the other dead. Some people on Twitter notice the eerie similarities to Jillian’s previous books.

Jillian’s book sales are rising — but the police are asking questions . . .

A seamless blend of high domestic suspense with a shattering final twist.

The Body in the Kelp is the second in Katherine Hall Page's Faith Fairchild series. It's $2.99 in the US right now, and discountable at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AECMYBC
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-body-in-the-kelp-3

Spoiler:
Quote:
This time around, Faith and her husband, Tom Fairchild, the handsome young minister, have left the little village of Aleford, Massachusetts for a summer on Sanpere Island, off the coast of Maine. But Tom is called away to a three-week religious retreat in New Hampshire, leaving Faith to amuse herself and care for baby Benjamin, now safely into his "terrible twos."

The summer begins innocently enough, with Faith involved in a seemingly harmless mystery, a hunt for treasure, the clues to which are cryptically embedded in a patchwork quilt. Then she and young Benjamin almost stumble over the body of another summer resident along the beach, and Faith is forced into more serious — and dangerous — "detection."

And, The Body in the Cast, which was on sale not too long ago, is on sale again in the US. Info and links in this previous post.

I've enjoyed Emma Jameson's Lord and Lady Hetheridge series over the years, both because it's a fun series, and also because the books go on sale/free reasonably often, both individually and in omnibuses. And here's the fifth book in the series, Blue Blooded, going for free at the moment. (It was also on sale back in 2020, but I didn't bite at that point...)

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B2ZHNPL
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/blue-blooded-2
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07B2ZHNPL
Kobo UK: https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/blue-blooded-2

Quote:
Plunge back into the riveting world of Emma Jameson's bestselling Lord & Lady Hetheridge Mystery Series with Blue Blooded—the most thrilling, shocking, and satisfying book yet!

Tony Hetheridge spent years as an esteemed Chief Superintendent for New Scotland Yard's "Toff Squad," tackling high-profile crimes among the rich and infamous. Now, he’s stepping into a brand-new career: private investigator. But his first case, the mysterious suicide of an Earl’s daughter and the subsequent disappearance of her twin brother leads to a dark, dangerous world: the circle of an unjustly acquitted murderer, Sir Duncan Godington.

As Tony goes undercover in the City of Westminster, racing against time to unravel the twins’ strange relationship with Sir Duncan, fiery wife Kate works on a high-tech political murder, and protégé DS Deepal Bhar contemplates the premature end of his policing career. Then Bhar gets a phone call that will change his life forever, from the one person who knows all of Sir Duncan’s secrets. Her testimony could put the baronet away once and for all—if she can be trusted.

Blue Blooded promises edge-of-your-seat suspense, intricate mysteries, and the characters you’ve come to know and love at their finest. From a lowly street homeless shelter to a London skyscraper’s very pinnacle, the stakes in this addition to the series will keep you reading far into the night. Don’t miss out—get yours today!

Today's Joffe free book is Absolution, which is the first in the Anderson/Costello series by Caro Ramsay. Per SYKM, it was a finalist for the New Blood Dagger Award back in 2008.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091H15B8W
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B091H15B8W

Quote:
A serial killer is stalking Glasgow.

A woman is found dead in her own home. No sign of forced entry. But she is posed as though on the cross. Ripped open and bled to death. With a blistering of chloroform round her mouth and nose.

She’s not the first victim found like this.

Detectives Anderson and Costello are on the case. But their boss, DCI Alan McAlpine, is unravelling before their eyes.

The past holds horrific memories for McAlpine. He last worked this beat some twenty years earlier, when he was assigned to guard a woman, faceless after a sadistic acid attack. He couldn’t protect her.

The past is resurfacing.
Three women are dead.

Can they stop a serial killer who’s terrifying the gritty streets of Glasgow?

A Scottish police procedural that will keep your pulse racing from electrifying opening to heart-stopping finish.

All six of the books in the Tito Amato series are $1.99 right now at Kindle US, and five of the six at Kobo US (and discountable at Kobo US). And fingers crossed for the last one...

There don't seem to be series webpages, but Myers hasn't written a lot of other books, just a few, so the author pages will get you there - without too many strays.

The Next President sounds like it should be part of Joseph Flynn’s Jim McGill series, but is actually a stand-alone. But in any case, it’s free right now.

(Although Flynn has gone self-pub in a serious way with his own Stray Dog Press, I've read and enjoyed all or nearly all of his Jim McGill, John Tall Wolf and Ron Ketchum titles, and also some other non-series titles. I don't really notice where the books stopped being "traditionally published", so I suspect he has done a good job of getting professional editing even as he self-pubs.)

The blackmailer wants J.D. to use his deadly skills to assassinate Senator Franklin Delano Rawley — the first African-American with a chance to become president of the United States.

In order to save his son, spare Rawley and emerge alive, J.D. must somehow find out who is behind a conspiracy that could change the fate of a nation.

(First published in June, 2000 — eight years before the election of Barack Obama. Also published before the first season of "24.")

As I've mentioned a time or two or two dozen, I am a big fan of historical mysteries, and one of my favorite time periods is ancient Egypt. And one of my favorite series is Lauren Haney's 8-book Lieutenant Bak series, set in the time of the Pharaoh Hatshepsut, and published in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Sadly, only six of the eight books have been made available in e-book in the US, and only one seems to be available in the UK, and they haven't gone on sale very often in the recent past. (Although a few of them seem to hang out around $4-ish, which is way too high for decades old backlist, IMO, but probably won't break the bank either...)

Happily, though, the fourth book, A Curse of Silence, is on sale right now for $0.99/£1.99 in the US/UK.

Spoiler:
Quote:
A vile rumor sweeps across the desert like a swiftly gathering sandstorm: Queen Hatshepsut plans to disband much of her frontier army and transform its fortresses into storehouses. The arrival of Amonked—the Queen's cousin and Storekeeper of Amon—at the city of Buhen convinces an uneasy Lieutenant Bak of the Medjay police that the whisperings that have alarmed the populace are true. Then, a day after Amonked inspects the local garrison and departs, a body is found stabbed in the house where he and his party rested. The slain man was a local prince, beloved by his people, so Bak travels upriver to join the caravan and investigate. Though nothing tangible connects Amonked and his people to the heinous act, Bak's inquiry soon sheds a disturbing light on an inexplicable crime. For the clues suggest that twisted honor and vengeance lie at its root . . . and a shocking secret, protected by murder and silence, that could itself silence the truth—and Bak—for eternity.

A FAMILY BUILT ON LIES.

Looking out at my dead wife’s family in the pews, I know I’m meant to read the eulogy that’s tucked into my pocket. The one that tells a story of the life I built with my wonderful wife before she was tragically killed in a hit-and-run.

But I decide to tell the truth. ‘I was married to two women. One I knew. And one I didn’t.’ Shocked murmurs echo around the church.

‘My wife left me a letter. She told me to destroy it once I’d read it and not reveal its contents to anyone.’

I grip the pulpit, my knuckles white. I see our two beautiful children sitting with their grandparents. ‘You might think me disloyal for going against Tara’s wishes, but I’ve decided to share this letter anyway.’

‘Starting with lie number one.’

EVERYTHING YOU THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS FAMILY IS ABOUT TO BE TURNED UPSIDE DOWN.

AN EXHILARATING PSYCHOLOGICAL SUSPENSE WITH TWISTS THAT WILL LEAVE YOU BREATHLESS.

The car is found just outside Picketsville, Virginia, a smoking ruin of twisted metal and shattered glass. It takes only a glance to confirm that this is Ike Schwartz's car. Ever since he left the CIA, the incorruptible Picketsville sheriff has made enemies at home and abroad. Now, one has caught up with him, with a bomb powerful enough to turn quiet Main Street into a smoking crater. Is this a cop killing—or domestic terrorism?

The town plunges into mourning, and Ike's wife Ruth, the president of the local college, puts on a brave face as the sheriff's department organizes a manhunt, the likes of which Picketsville has never seen. Back at the CIA, Ike's old colleague Charlie Garland joins the hunt, becoming fixated on a blurry videotape of the crime scene. Charlie's elastic job description includes monitoring Ike's life.

Investigations—led by more than one player—fan around and out of Picketsville as far as a small town in Idaho where Martin Pangborn, head of the radical militia called the Fifty-First Star, runs his organization. If some banks and businesses are too big to fail, are some people too deeply connected or too wealthy to bring to justice? Is Martin Pangborn such a person? The Fifty-First Star's tentacles run long and deep. But the Vulture is something no one, not even Martin Pangborn, is prepared for.
