Books on Board 50% off + 5% rewards

BooksOnBoard is getting an early start on Christmas Day by offering 50% off Publishers List price on all eBooks and Audio Books that are not Fixed Price (Publishers do not allow any retailer to discount),

Promo Code candycane will get you the sweet deals, 50% Off list price, and you'll also get another 5% in Rewards Dollars on top of that!

So is this sweet deal limited to one title or one order? No way, at BooksOnBoard you use our promo code till we announce the next one so you always save big.

It's worth checking prices at Kobo as well, as the Kobo 40% off discount code Bargainmoose40 is 40% off Kobo's selling price, not the retail price.

Yep, I still compare across the stores, although Kobo doesn't have some of the non fiction titles that I want; and also, interestingly, whilst some of the titles that Kobo has are not on special at Kobo - they are at BoB.

The gift certificate offer is here: UK, US

Buying $20 of gift certificates gets you $2 in reward dollars. Combine with the 50% off RRP, and you can buy $44 RRP of books for $20, a 55% discount. And then you get back another $2.20 in rewards. So that's $44 of books for $17.8, a total theoretical discount of 59.5% off RRP. That does seem an excellent discount.

Did you include the $2 discount if you spend $19 or more? Also, you get 1% off if you pay using Google Wallet without the gift cert.

Makes me wonder how they can afford to offer these promos.

No, I didn't. I think that would take the total discount above 60%

But I'm not buying a thing until 1st February 2013. (Well, with the possible exception of the February Webscription, which will become unavailable around the 15th January.)

How does one know whether or not a book is fixed price at BoB?

Usually there is no discount quoted - just the flat price (similar to Kobo). When you click to add to the basket, there is a red diamond next to the price and comment below stating '♦ This format's price is set by the publisher and is not subject to discounts or rewards specials.'

Thanks, yes, I'd spotted that. I was actually meaning whether there was a straightforward way to tell in the list of search results which books were eligible for a discount and which weren't. Other than clicking on each book in turn, there appears not to be.

Yes, I believe clicking on "add to cart" and looking for the diamond is the only way. Fortunately, they allow you to exit before actually adding to cart. And the discount is on the original list price not the marked down sale price.

That said, their prices generally are very good. I've often found them lower than Amazon and Kobo.

Damn! After having bought quite a few books to take advantage of this sale, I seem to have triggered some kind of "anti-fraud" mechanism and my account's been locked . I've sent them an e-mail - hope they sort it out soon.

The 'lockdown' usually clears in an hour or 2 by itself (or does for me, when I having a book buying frenzy!).

While it is not a 100% correlation, if you open up a book page and there is a "Rewards" banner next to the book's picture then it is a discount-eligible title. No rewards a BoB usually means the price is set by the publisher.
