I wonder if tshring's "kbterminal" could run a script to use the find command to search the user's library and then launch Koreader or Coolreader with the found file as an argument?

If you mean the Kobo Start Menu, there are some in the first post of this thread. If you mean the kbterminal it is in the start menu Scripts>Tools. It opens with the keyboard tab and direct entry mode selected.

@Ken
Thanks I will check it out. Is there any issues with uninstalling at all? Any resetting, factory settings requirements? thanks |

The uninstall instructions from the first post: "Copy KoboRoot.tgz from the uninstall folder (provided in the zip file) to .kobo, after ejecting (and perhaps restarting) select "handle update > install update." Remove the folders .kobo\kbmenu and kbmenupngs manually." Luck; Ken Last edited by Ken Maltby; 06-16-2014 at 08:26 PM. |

We could try to do something to that effect. Does any of the two readers already accept a file as argument?

@exachillus
If you decide against using the Kobo Start Menu after testing, better uninstall it by running the appropriate KoboRoot.tgz. There is always a chance that the Kobo Start Menu does not work after the next firmware update, and than you will have to factory reset your device. Why should you take the risk for nothing? The two folders however won't do any harm if you don't delete them (apart from using up space on the internal sd). Last edited by tshering; 06-17-2014 at 09:33 AM. |

@tshering: reader.lua (called from koreader_kobo.sh) support both folder and files as arguments. If you specify a folder (like by default: /mnt/onboard) this folder will be opened in filemanager, if you specify a file this file will be opened with the reader itself. If you don't specify any arguments koreader will start with last opened file

If I turn USB on but do not connect the reader to a computer, does it cost energy?
I wonder if Start Menu could not turn on USB by default, or maybe even better, remenber if it was on or off after a reboot and set it back on if it was on before... |

It should be possible to load the module after booting. But I would not recommend doing so. When you select "usb" > "usb enable.sh," apart from loading the module, the script also causes the writing cash to be emptied after its content is written to disk (if there is something to be written). If usb access is enabled all the time, chances are that you try to copy a file the content of which is not yet written to disk from the device to your pc, or from pc to the device. This would lead to data loss and even to corruption of files. Last edited by tshering; 06-20-2014 at 12:20 PM. |
