I ended up returning mine to the store I bought it from and just ordered the $139 from Amazon since none of the stores within 20 miles had them anymore. It arrived at my door within 24 hours even though I did the free 2-day shipping. I've yet to get the screensaver hack to work on the NON-Special Offer K3, I keep getting U007 errors after jailbreaking (which threw a U004, but I heard that means it worked...). Jailbreaking appears to be pointless for now... Last edited by HatboxGhost; 06-16-2011 at 08:05 PM. |

Thanks. Too bad no one here posted an alert here. I missed it in deals.

Well, it was easier than I thought for me to get rid of the ads but also lose the offers (i can live without them however!)
Amazon accepted to remove the offers and ads from my kindle! But: 1. I could no way return it (gift, no receipt, bought in a store in usa, I live in greece) 2. I explained to them I hate the ad-thing and I am willing to pay for an updating to "normal" version Oh, I am so happy I will see the dead authors, as some of you say!!! no more hotel ads!!! I hope you all find your way to a better kindle relationship! And as we say in greece these days, the only struggle that is lost, is the one not given! |

free of charge!
I was not asked any money. I guess they did it because they understand it is more profitable for amazon this way - i will now use my kindle and buy books and it is also for their good reputation to have a good costumer service. But don't forget it is a gift and it would be very hard to return it... |

Well, your doubt is reasonable, but yes, my story is true! It took 3 mails to convince them though. I wrote to amazon I would pay but I guess because there is no such service, they decided it is better to change it for free. The truth is I will now start buying books from amazon and of course it is good advertising for them! Of course I have to admit it was an excellent "customer-centered" as they say move. Maybe it also has to do with many people being disatisfied with the whole KSO story... |

There is hope! I will email Amazon and beg for release from Oil of Olay hell!
But... what Amazon email address did you use? I can't find any general 'support' address. There's a Kindle support forum, which is of course useless. How did you make contact with someone who could actually make this change? Last edited by jimh12345; 06-18-2011 at 05:33 PM. |

You should definately do it! But keep in mind that for me it was a gift and bought in another continent! What could I really do...? Go in Customer Service, find Contacts us (on the right), General Support, contact us. it is very easy! |

I finally found the address, and sent a polite message, asking if I could pay to upgrade to the standard Kindle. I realize the response will almost certainly be "no" but at least then I can proceed with the jailbreak with a clear conscience :-)

The answer to my 1th email was an automated message, the answer to my 2nd email was a "sorry, not possible" but the answer to my 3rd email was "we disabled the offers". All sent the same day... How come you have the Special Offers Kindle? I told them mine was a gift, that I really do not want this kind of kindle and "please help!" Of course, I say again, I didn't have many options, it was impossible to return it. Couldn't you return it and buy the one you want? Maybe you should tell them you are willing to do almost anything, from paying to breaking it, to get rid of the ads. Good Luck! |

The response I got completely missed the point of the question. The support person thought I wanted to physically exchange the Kindle and of course said "no". I may try again.
I bought the KOO (Kindle Oil of Olay) because I thought the ads might be interesting. They are not. None of the 'special offers' have been of value to me either. |
