Could an ePub file be causing device problems ?? I had a battery drain problem on my brand new h2O. Ended up getting a brand new one. Same thing is happening. I suspect it might be a faulty ePub file ??? Could it be it ?

how do they calculate percentages?
I just noticed that the % were whacky: 27+65 = 92; 30% + 72.2%? In fact it is now 29% and 71%.

Edit: just noticed the total number of voter, 90, which is inferior to the total of those who chose epubs (27) and those who chose kepubs (65). I thought it was impossible to choose both but apparently it is not. 27/90 30% and 65/90 is 72.2%, so the % are ok in this case, and 2 persons "preferred" both epub and kepub, which doesn't fit my understanding or what "prefer" means. But then I'm French. Last edited by anacreon; 07-19-2018 at 08:14 AM. |

Just speculating here, but it could mean "it depends" if a person prefers to use the format based on some book characteristics (contains images, that sort of thing).

I'm all for the kepubs! Though mainly for the extra statistics, especially time left in chapter (while viewing full book page numbers in the footer).
What patch reduces the header size? |

Look in the nickel.patch file in the GeoffR & Co. patches. The patch comes in two flavours to reduce height by 33% or 50%. Look for "Custom Header menubar" in the patch file.
If you are not familiar with the patch generation, check Instructions for patching firmware 4.9.11311 for more information. If you are not on 4.9.11311, look in the sticky "An index of all patch threads" to locate your firmware version. |

Would full screen reading work for you? You can't get smaller than no header at all, but menu sizes aren't touched.

As for kepub v epub, I'm mostly in the kepub camp but not sure if that's more because I've gotten used to it and have lazy css clean-up routines, or because of the minor advantages the renderer offers (though there are quite a few books where pop-up footnotes have been extremely useful). Extra stats are nice but I rarely look them up in full screen mode. I have applied some patches to both kepub and epub renderers so with a decent source file both formats can look pleasant to my eye. Particularly now that epubs are no longer so slow to operate and I'm getting used to a bit bigger screen where full justification no longer feels out of the question, I've come to appreciate the equally minor advantages of the epub renderer more. Maybe I'll just have to edit the files more thoroughly from now on to become a real convert... |

Epub only for fullscreen reading and better typography.
