Calibre transfers books to whichever device you currently have plugged in to your PC via the USB cable. There's no problem whatsoever with having multiple devices - just make sure that you only connect one at a time to your PC.

With Calibre open, click the "Library" button and chose "Switch/Create Library". You're given an option to create a new library. Hit the "Browse" icon on the other side of the "New Location" field and then create a new folder for your new library and give it the name you want it to use. Then select "Create an empty library at the new location". Then you can go to the Library button and 'Quick Switch" between one library and another. The only time you can't switch is when Calibre is in the middle of running a job. I have 21 different libraries to keep all my files sorted, and switch between them all the time. You can also copy books from one library to another. Very handy. |

You can share a Library or each user can have a Library.
It is really simple if the users each have their own logon to the PC. The Library and settings can be completely unique to each user. This does not stop also having a 'shared' Library. Note: Do not use 'Fast user switching' as Calibre will have fits if 2 users connect to the same library. Each user needs to disconnect from the shared Library. The simple way is to force them to log off so another user can Log on. A shared logon can only have 1 setting, but use any Library they have access to. |
