How do I ensure that changes to metadata are permanent?

I downloaded an ebook in ePUB format and when it was opened in Calibre, the author and title are displayed wrongly. I then right-clicked on the ebook and chose "edit metadata individually". A window opened up and I made the necessary corrections. Next I clicked on "OK" button and the window closed automatically.

But I discovered that the changes that I made are not permanent.

Could someone show me how to make them permanent?

Did you directly copy the book from the Calibre library on disk, rather than exporting it from within the Calibre program? If you make metadata changes within Calibre, they will be applied to the book whenever you export it from the program: "send to device", "save to disk" or (for those devices which support it) "send by e-mail".

Don't take files directly from the Calibre library on disk. Regard it as a "black box". Don't go in there.

Thanks for the tip. I should have saved the changed ePUB ebook to disk to make the changes permanent.

You can also do an epub to epub conversion. Or use the plug in Modify Epub to make the changes go into the actual epub file.
