It's new, and it's popular. For the first few days there will be threads on it *shock*. If it's still dominating the page in a week, sure, but I'd bet 1-2 threads on it will still be going then.
This place is already badly organised enough in forum layout terms without hiding live threads with interesting discussion in generic forums. |

Heh. Given my views on UI and layout, that's actually me being VERY VERY nice.

But how many people lug around 1 and a half pound books for casual reading? And how often? And don't forget the "book" cover to protect that $1,000 PLUS ereader. Well, this is an ereader/reading forum. It does deserve its' own spot. Mixed in with other tablets. |

I actually agree that (part) of the mobileread forum is laid out 'badly'. That's perhaps too strong a word, but some updating to the organization wouldn't hurt. There are two forums for irex devices, two for Sony devices, but for some reason a single forum for Bookeen devices...etc.
Perhaps the major sub category "e-book devices" should be renamed "dedicated e-book devices" so as to be more clear and the "portable devices" used for everything else.....giving the iPad it's own forum at least for the time being (unless and until the traffic trails off?). -Jeff |

I hadn't thought of that aspect, but you're right... It never ceases to amaze me how some little narrow minds just can't stand for someone to like an electronic device, that they personally don't want. To me it's always different strokes for different folks, and what is it to me what someone reads their book on?......oh well....... Anyway, another good reason for a separate forum! |

Have the portable device area have multiple subforums. Maybe something like: Apple iPhone/iTouch/iPad Other Smart Phones PDAs Other Tablets PC/Mac E-book Reading Software (for laptops/netbooks which are portable) Just seems like the site focuses too much on dedicated reading devices which doesn't fit being called Mobileread since any portable device that one can read e-books on fits that title as it's all mobile reading of e-books. |

I fully agree with both points that it either should be placed under other devices or we should have a dedicated forum for all tablets devices that can be used as e-readers. No matter how it is marketed, it is not a fully dedicated e-book reader ala the Kindle, Sony, etc. In the final analysis it is a multimedia device that can be used to read e-books. IMHO, there is a definite difference between the two.

Please tell me that the move of the iPad threads to the iPhone sub-forum is not the intended end-state.......the name of that sub-forum is now misleading. If there are different sub-forums for the various devices like the Sony Readers, then I would think that the iPhone and iPad deserve separate sub-forums.

FWIW, I know there is currently forum reorganisation related to devices being intensively considered and discussed. Comments that have been made here about reorganisation no doubt significantly help that consideration and discussion.

I like this idea - I'd organize it something like the following: Dedicated Devices:
And under non-dedicated devices:
No idea if this kind of sweeping change is feasible, but I've long felt mobileread simply had too many forums, and of the wrong categorization. After all, most mobile devices which run the same OS tend to have the same kinds of problems. It makes sense to group them. In addition, readers which use the same DRM tend to have similar problems. Multi-organizational structures FTW! |
