Integrating other systems with Calibre server

Hello,

If another system interfaces with Calibre only via the REST API, is it required to be licensed under GPL as well?

What about if it consumes the data generated by Calibre, such as by parsing its data stored in Dropbox?

The GPL does not apply to data or API usage, only distribution of the software itself.

Ok, thanks for the info.

Will it need to have any attribution or a “not affiliated with nor endorsed by Calibre” disclaimer or anything like that?

If you are using calibre branding for your product, then yes such a disclaimer should be there. If you are simply usning calibre as a backend that the users of your product are unaware of, noneed.

And I should add, that if you are using calibre as a backend, while not legally required, it would be polite to add some text to your products help/about indicating that it uses calibre at the backend.

Will do, for both the disclaimer and the help/about text

If anyone is interested, I’m building an alternative to Calibre Companion for iOS.
