Sony will replace broken PRS500 with... what?
I was wondering if anyone had recent experience with Sony service center replacements. Here's the synopsis:
Gave my old PRS500 to sister-in-law to use. It promptly broke/froze, scrambled screen (after 2+ years of being used and carried everywhere--but I digress). She's out of town so I haven't tried to fix it. She took it to a Sony Style store, and the clerk said they would replace it with a refurb for $100. Gave her a card with info for replacing the unit. Sounds like a pretty good deal imo. My question is: what model Reader will they replace it with? Does Sony still have refurbed 500's? Or might they replace it with a 505? Just wondering before I decide whether to exchange it or try to fix it. Thx! |

Probably a re-furb 505. Wouldn't hurt to specifically request one if you're dealing with them over the phone.

A refurb 505 would be cool. I really don't want a 500 replacement because they will probably have upgraded the firmware for ePub, which kills the battery life and makes russification questionable. (I haven't checked on the latter in a while.)

Probably they will replace it with one of the newer updates. i will sugges to give a call to cust service so they can deal with the process of exchange.

They replace with a PRS-600.
That's what I received when Sony broke my Reader during a repair. -Pie |
