Hate Cell by Gwen Molnar is the 1st in her Casey Templeton series of YA investigative mystery adventures starring a teen in small-town Alberta, free courtesy of Canadian publisher Dundurn.

This is iTunes Canada's featured Free eBook of the Week, and I appreciate the effort that the publisher has put into also making it free in multiple stores, including some of the more obscure ones, and several countries outside of Canada as well. As a reminder, Dundurn Press books are couponable at Kobo and they have some mysteries currently marked down to $3.49, mentioned in the Mystery/Suspense/Thriller megathread.

Currently free, probably until Monday @ B&N (also in the UK), Amazon (available to Canadians and in the UK), Kobo & iTunes & Google Play (all available to Canadians), and also BookShout (online reading & in-app download).

Because it's nice to get (probably) non-murder investigative mysteries set in places in Canada which are not located in Ontario, and involve real issues that Canadians face on a more regular basis than messed-up psychosexual taunting stalker serial killers which we really don't get all that many of on a per-capita basis, which makes sleuth novels based around those seem kind of silly once they get up in the numbers.

Apparently the next book in the series involves theft of dinosaur fossils (also a legit Canadian concern which makes the CBC headlines in the science section often enough), which makes it even more awesometastic.

Description
Thirteen-year-old Casey Templeton has recently moved with his family to the southeastern Alberta town of Richford. One night Casey seeks refuge from a snowstorm in an abandoned farmhouse and stumbles upon his nearly frozen, unconscious science teacher, Mr. Deverell. Casey attempts to revive his teacher and searches the house for something to make a fire with. In the attic he makes a frightening discovery – a sophisticated office filled with computers, a printer, and racist posters and flyers!

Richford is harbouring a vicious cell of white racists who are targeting everyone they deem "alien." Somehow Mr. Deverell is connected to the dangerous organization, and so, too, are other residents, young and old, in Casey's new town.

Soon the RCMP and Casey's hacker brother, Hank, get involved in the mystery, but it’s Casey who leads the investigation into a warped world where hate is marketed on the Internet and innocent people are preyed on by bigots and bullies blinkered by their own prejudices.
