It is not at all inconvenient to buy in the browser. Compared to the Kindle Store experience on Kindle, Fire, or Kindle for Android, it is IMO superior. You cannot see all of the information about the book in the in-app Kindle Store. You cannot decide which device to send it to. Browser search has more features than in-app search. With a desktop/laptop browser you can also have extensions to check price history or whether it is available at public library.

Of course, it would be nice to have in-app purchase as well as browser purchase, but I don’t think I’d use it very much.

There’s something to be said for having a reading app be just a reading app, and without a storefront. Maybe you spend more time reading instead of shopping.

Conversely, it is inconvenient that one cannot buy Apple Books in a browser, but am forced to open the Books app. Also you cannot purchase iOS apps in a web browser and push them to one of your devices, as you can with Android.
