The Great Revolt is the sixteenth in Paul Doherty's Brother Athelstan series. It's £0.99 at Kindle UK right now.

Quote:
The sins of the father shall be visited upon the son.
June, 1381. The rebel armies are massed outside London, determined to overturn both Crown and Church. The Regent, John of Gaunt, has headed north, leaving his nephew, the boy-king Richard II, unprotected.

Brother Athelstan would prefer to be protecting his parishioners at St Erconwald’s. Instead, he finds himself investigating a royal murder that took place fifty-four years earlier whilst the rebel leaders plot the present king’s destruction.

What does the fate of the king’s great-grandfather, Edward II, have to do with the murder of Brother Alberic, a priest stabbed at the monastery in Blackfriars, more than fifty years later? When he finds his own life under threat, Athelstan discovers that exposing past secrets can lead to present danger.

A gripping medieval mystery of rebellion and murder, perfect for fans of Edward Marston, Kate Sedley and David Penny.

Dover in June released a paperback of the first Hardy Boys book, The Tower Treasure, originally published in 1927. That suggests to me that it is now in the public domain. Are we there (1927) yet?

Here is the Kindle link.
https://www.amazon.com/Tower-Treasur...dp/B0B3C991NF/

You will note that some of the reviewers are saying that they ordered the 1927 edition, but received the 1959 edition instead. So I don't know what you will receive if you order the eBook, now going for $5.20, 42% off.

'There's another body on a slab, Dallas. Dirty cop or not, he's dead, and she's responsible. She has to be shut downbefore she decides to clean house again.'

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is about to come up against her most formidable criminal yet: Lieutenant Renee Oberman, daughter of a New York Police legend. After eighteen years on the force, Oberman is efficient, decorated - and utterly corrupt.

When Eve's partner Peabody overhears a damning conversation between Oberman and one of her flunkies, Peabody, Eve and her husband Roarke are soon on the case.

No.

January 1, 2023, for books published in 1927.

This whole business is dodgy; I’d stay well away (but that’s me). I wouldn’t pay that much for a public domain ebook anyway. But the fiddle with the cover, the reports that people have had updates forced on them, and Amazon’s typically conflating editions so you can’t know what you’re getting are all red flags. Less than five months to go on a legit pd edition; can you hold out?

Some of the reviews said that when they bought it, it had the original cover, but an update changed the artwork.

Patricia MacDonald writes psychological thrillers, which are not my thing, but may be your thing . And if so, here you go...

Per an email from Joffe Books, MacDonald's Cast into Doubt is free for today only (not sure whose time zone) at Kindle US and UK.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09233SSDB
Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09233SSDB

Spoiler:
Quote:
A NAIL-BITING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER FROM A BESTSELLING AUTHOR.

A dream vacation turns into a mom’s worst nightmare.

Shelby wants to give her daughter Chloe a gift she’ll never forget: a luxury cruise around the Caribbean.

It will be the honeymoon she and her husband Rob never got to take. Shelby will look after their little boy.

Then the unthinkable happens.

Shelby gets a call from a distraught Rob. Chloe is missing. Fallen overboard.

Everyone says she was drunk and alone. That it must have been a tragic accident.

But all Shelby’s maternal instincts tell her that can’t be true. Chloe never drank. Shelby has to find out what really happened.

Because she knows her own daughter. Doesn’t she?

A seamless blend of high domestic suspense with a shattering final twist.

Smokin' Seventeen is the (big surprise!) seventeenth in the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. It's $2.99 at Kindle US as part of Kindle's current "Popular fiction titles for $3.99 or less" sale, ending 8/14, and price-matched at Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HFRJCG
Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B004HFRJCG
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/smo...nie-plum-novel

Spoiler:
Quote:
Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.

Dead bodies are showing up in shallow graves on the empty construction lot of Vincent Plum Bail Bonds. No one is sure who the killer is, or why the victims have been offed, but what is clear is that Stephanie’s name is on the killer’s list.

Short on time to find evidence proving the killer’s identity, Stephanie faces further complications when her family and friends decide that it’s time for her to choose between her longtime off-again-on-again boyfriend, Trenton cop Joe Morelli, and the bad boy in her life, security expert Ranger. Stephanie’s mom is encouraging Stephanie to dump them both and choose a former high school football star who’s just returned to town. Stephanie’s sidekick, Lula, is encouraging Stephanie to have a red-hot boudoir “bake-off.” And Grandma Bella, Morelli’s old-world grandmother, is encouraging Stephanie to move to a new state when she puts “the eye” on Stephanie.

With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.

Dr Ruth Galloway: Further Cases is an omnibus of the fourth - sixth cases in the Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. It's £4.99 right now at Kindle UK, which is a pretty good price if you need all three. The titles in the omnibus are A Room Full of Bones, A Dying Fall, and The Outcast Dead.

Kindle UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089KCRXV9
Kindle UK/Smile: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089KCRXV9

Spoiler:
Quote:
Enjoy three great mysteries from bestselling author Elly Griffiths' super-popular Dr Ruth Galloway series. Forensic archaeologist Ruth with DCI Harry Nelson mix brilliant detection with navigating their ever more complicated relationship.

'Ruth Galloway is one of the most engaging characters in modern crime fiction' KATE MOSSE

A ROOM FULL OF BONES
It's Halloween night, and the dead are closer than ever for Ruth. She's attending a bizarre event at the local history museum - the opening of a coffin containing the bones of a medieval bishop. But lying beside the coffin is the body of the museum's curator. Soon the museum's wealthy owner lies dead too. These deaths could be from natural causes but Nelson isn't convinced. It is only a matter of time before Ruth and Nelson cross paths once more.

A DYING FALL
Dr Ruth Galloway spends a lot of time looking at death. But now death has found her, with the news that an old friend has died in a house fire. But her grief soon turns to suspicion of arson when she receives a desperate letter from her dead friend, sent the day before he died. He'd made a ground-breaking discovery that he was sure would change archaeology forever - and was petrified of the consequences. Ruth feels compelled to travel north to investigate, alongside Nelson who is also drawn into the case.

THE OUTCAST DEAD
Ruth has excavated a body from the grounds of Norwich Castle, which was once a prison. The body may be that of Victorian murderess Jemima Green. Called Mother Hook for her claw-like hand, Jemima was hanged for the murder of five children. But Nelson has no time for long-ago killers. Investigating the case of three infants found dead, one after the other, in their King's Lynn home, he's convinced that their mother is responsible. Then a child goes missing. Could the abduction be linked to the long-dead Mother Hook? Ruth is pulled into the case, and back towards Nelson.

Free on Amazon UK today- The Night Raven by Sarah Painter

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Night-Raven...7JJMX6TV&psc=1

Spoiler:
Meet Lydia Crow...

Lydia has always known she has no power, especially next to her infamous and more-than-slightly dodgy family. Which is why she carved her own life as a private investigator far away from London.

When a professional snafu forces her home, the head of the family calls in a favour, and Lydia finds herself investigating the disappearance of her cousin, Maddie.

Soon, Lydia is neck-deep in problems: her new flatmate is a homicidal ghost, the intriguing, but forbidden, DCI Fleet is acting in a distinctly unprofessional manner, and tensions between the old magical families are rising.

The Crows used to rule the roost and rumours claim they are still the strongest.
The Silvers have a facility for lying and they run the finest law firm in London.
The Pearl family were costermongers and everybody knows that a Pearlie can sell feathers to a bird.
The Fox family... Well. The less said about the Fox family the better.

For seventy-five years, a truce between the four families has held strong, but could the disappearance of Maddie Crow be the thing to break it?
