Atkinson, Eleanor: Greyfriars' Bobby, (v.1.)

American author Eleanor Stackhouse Atkinson (1863-1942) is best remembered for her hugely popular novel (or is it a biography?) "Greyfriars' Bobby" (1912). This popular work recounted the famous story of the loyal dog who refused to leave his master's grave in Edinburgh's Greyfriars' Churchyard and became a local legend. Most of the modern versions of the story probably stem from this book.

Despite the fact that she never went anywhere near Scotland in her life, the depiction of the city atmosphere, and of the dialect, is convincing. It is likely she was originally told the story by a Scottish immigrant.

I believe that Disney made a movie based on the story.
