I've been having issues with random image cycle as the images dosen't show randomly on my PW4
Am I missing anything in this thread? If so, apologies for not checking the whole thread

It's randomized on framework startup *only* (i.e., on boot). And it is a cycle, don't expect stuff to magically change during a single sleep session.

1) I just installed ss hack on KOA3 FW 5.12.4 and random image ghosting is (sometimes) reaaly bad.
Kindle itself normally does not ghost at all (except for like a minute when woken from deep sleep), I believe a flash to black > white > then cover would take care of this, right now it seems to only flash white briefly > cover.
Amazon's own default screen savers feature is flawless in this regard, no slightest ghosting.

2) Which version of Python do I chose, 2 or 3? The only hint I was able to find is "choose whatever version you need", but which one do I need for ss hack only?

1. Absolutely no control over that: it *is* the system's stock screensaver behavior. If you're seeing different flash patterns, I'd be inclined to say you're imagining things.

2. 2. Notice the doc says "Python", and the Python 2 packages are named... "python" (and not "python3").

Hello! I've been scouring the posts here for the past couple of days and can't find anyone else with my issue... but my apologies if this has already been addressed.

Has compatibility/support been removed for the PW (B024)? I was able to install KUAL and MRPI just fine from the snapshots thread, but when I go to install this under the "Packages targeting the Kindle 5 Touch/PW1/PW2/KT2/KV/PW3/KOA/KT3/KOA2/PW4/KT4/KOA3):" heading, I get the following input into the mrinstaller.log file

I tried replacing the files "default-kv.png" and "overlay-kv.png" with another black and white or grayscale image of the same resolution (1072x1448), and restarting, but this does not work. It looks like a corrupted image, like a bunch of vertical black and white lines. I have experimented with changing the number or colors from 2-16. I have restarted from the kindle menu as well as the kual framework restart.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried saving it on 24-bit png?

There should be a 'screensavers' folder inside 'linkss', that's were you should place your images in for the app to process it. I don't think you should touch 'cover_cache', it seems that the app uses it for something else.

I have also been putting the images into /screensavers. I forgot to mention that. I have been trying to replace the default screensaver when I press the power button to turn the screen off, and it will not display a custom image.

I have been using GIMP to save as an 8-bit, grayscale PNG. Is that low enough?

The Kindle is 4-bit, isn't it?

@Machinus: You shouldn't *ever* try to replace the default- file. That's not how this works.

You *may* want to modify the overlay, but, again, it's useless if you're not actually using overlay mode.

So: what *are* you trying to do, exactly?

(And Windows' info thingy doesn't cut it, I'd need the output from ImageMagick's identity -verbose tool to confirm the format).
