Creating eReader format from OPF

Is there a program that will take an OPF file from an eBook and convert it to eReader format so it keeps the formatting proper? For example, taking an MS Reader eBook, exploding it to it's components and then using some other program with the OPF file to create the eReader eBook keeping the formatting? Also exploding Mobipocket using mobi2oeb gives us an OPF as well.

Supposedly eBook Studio for Windows can do it, but the formatting does not get kept all that well. So is there anything better then that?

Well, the OPF file just contain metadata, like author, title, etc. All the formatting information is contained in the HTML+CSS composing the e-book content. Any formatting inconsistencies are a result of either the e-book renderer (for HTML-native formats) or the conversion process.

If I understand eReader correctly, it is a CSS-less presentational HTML variant similar to what is used by Mobipocket? In that case you'd need a tool which can properly transform the HTML+CSS input into pure-presentational HTML tailored for the eReader renderer. No idea what tools are available to do that.

So then it doesn't seem like it can be easily done. I guess the best solution is to just ignore eReader and hope Mobipocket for the iPod Touch comes out soon.

What I used to do before I discovered this forum, and still do for some books, is run the HTML through something called "Detagger" by Jafsoft, and then use Makedoc to make the Ereader PDB file from text. It is actually really good at keeping formatting though the HTML > text process. It supports so many things I haven't found 1/2 of them yet and have been a registered user for years.
