No buttons for Grandma. No nice contrast for Grandma. No larger screen for Grandma. No nice space to make it easier to hold. No love for Grandma. Libra 2 = love for Grandma. Clara HD = meh! for grandma.

I must say that if I had a grandma, I would give her a Libra 2.
No silly tapping or swiping to turn pages, the clearest text imaginable.
It just runs itself, which is what I understand older people want
So +1 to that.

Asking for suggestions that meet the following requirements:
  1. cheap (second hand, this will likely be mislaid often)
  2. magnetic sleep/wake case (minimal button pressing - arthritis)
  3. backlight
  4. uk library (overdrive) compatibile (not essential)

Thank you community!
I suggest having grandma pick a font size she likes on your reader and go from there to determine the size of the reader for her.

My mother has very bad eyesight and uses a very large font size. She has used 7" ereaders in the past, and is now using an 8".

She was reading Gone With the Wind the other day, and commented that it was over 5000 "pages" long.

That's a good idea. Also while at it, find out if buttons would be good or not.

We don't know this to be true. What text size does Grandma need and would buttons be better for page turns?

Yes, we do. Read the first post. The word 'cheap' is right there.

You are SO set on your opinions, you are forgetting they're opinions, not facts.

No we don't. Cheap means maybe buying Grandma a Kobo that's not appropriate.

The Clara HD has a nice screen with good contrast. A larger screen may not be necessary. The Clara HD would be lighter and (in my opinion) easier to hold than the Libra 2.

I know you're on an anti-6" screen crusade, but could you tone down the hyperbole just a bit?

And it could mean buying what the OP can afford. You don't have to have a screen bigger than 6" to read with large print.

Here's an attached picture of a screen with large print on the Clara HD (random book I "bought" for free from Kobo to see it the Mini could still use the Kobo market).

(Tried to take a screenshot, but couldn't get that working?)
