I suspect this was posted in the wrong forum. The KFX Input thread is probably what was wanted. OTOH, the version of KFX downloaded by K4PC 1.40.1 is not currently able to have DRM removed so you are dead in the water trying to use K4PC to download the ebook.

You may want to check the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre, the DRM workaround: Kindle for Android and the Amazon and DRM changes threads for more information and possible workarounds.

The DRM removal plugin is not currently able to remove DRM from most books downloaded using newer versions of Kindle for PC.

Fix an incorrect number of '/' characters in a URL contained in an href of an EPUB in order to prevent an internal error in the Kindle Previewer from occurring during conversion.

Create a cover image for print replica books converted from a KPF produced by Kindle Create. Fixes "WARNING: The cover could not be set because the page uses an unsupported format: cover page uses a PDF image".

Remove support for calibre versions prior to 5.0. (Older versions of this plugin that run under calibre 2.x through 4.x are available in this post.)

Hello everyone,

(Apologies beforehand if this isn't the right place.
I did try to find a way to send a private message, but...)

Anyhow, I did the typical epub to kfx conversion through calibre.
The output is as neat as always - for which I am grateful.
However, certain characters didn't come through...?
In the UTF-8 set these characters are called "box drawings", e.g. ╕

Now, I'm testing the output kfx file in an Android, in the Kindle app.
Other apps in the device render the base epub file fine.
Did an 'Amazon send to kindle' of the epub original file.
Their output, across all Kindle devices - the app included - renders the characters fine.

Hence, it seems the issue is indeed limited with the kfx output file...?
Can anyone shed some light here, please?

Spoke too soon...
When I now converted the kfx output into azw8, and did another preview in the Kindle Previewer, the characters where there by miracle.
Hence, it's not the kfx output file at all. It's the damn fonts!
Some support the drawing box characters, some don't...

I have seen similar issues with emoji characters being present in some fonts and not in others.

I used Kindle Create to create a manga (Right-to-Left, Facing pages), added first page to Table of Contents as "Cover" and exported a KPF file. However, after converting to kfx and sideloading it to my Kindle, the entry "Cover" in Table of Contents does not work. Tapping on it will not return the first page, no matter where I was reading. Also, there is no page number for this entry (the number on the right in ToC), unlike remaining entries. When I checked in Kindle Previewer, that entry worked fine.

Embedding the cover or not with calibre does not fix the error.

Is there any step I'm missing here?

I tried this and I am seeing the same behavior. I will do some more research to see if I can determine why this is happening and possibly come up with a work around.

I found the reason for this. The Kindle firmware expects a landmark entry for the cover to be present in the book's metadata and that was not being generated by this plugin. This will be fixed in the next release of the KFX Output plugin.

Hello new to converting to KFX, and I'm having issues. I downloaded everything, but I keep getting stuck on "Launching Kindle Previewer 3" in calibre.
I launched Kindle Preview separately to make sure it works and it does.
So I'm just asking for help with this issue

Some books can take a long time to convert. How long have you let it run?

Have you tried converting the Frankenstein book called out in the Installation section of the first post in this thread?

Do you have extra antivirus software installed on your system that might be interfering?

You can try selecting "Enable conversion timeout" in the KFX Output section of the conversion dialog. That will halt conversion after 15 minutes. You can then post the conversion log here and I can look for anything unusual in it.

I let the conversion run for 2 hours on a comic I had converted from Kindle Comic Conventer under their KFX template before I hit stop. Then I ran an EPUB version of Great Gatsby and let that run for 45 min and still had the same issue pop up.
I'm also doing this through Pararells on Macos while also doing it on MacOS itself.

That won't work, but it shouldn't just run forever. See Converting Comics and Manga in the first post in this thread for more information.

Have you tried the version of Frankenstein I mentioned earlier? If that fails to convert in a reasonable time then I suggest using the timeout option I mentioned in my previous post.

I assume that you mean that this problem happens when running calibre under regular MacOS and also when running calibre under parallels. So you have both Kindle Previewer for Mac and Kindle Previewer for Windows both installed on your system? I am not very familiar with Macs so I don't know if there might be a problem with doing that.
