The first wave of android tablets

http://www.businessinsider.com/archo...-tablet-2010-9

The first wave of Android tablets from Archos are set to hit U.S. shores in the next two months, the company announced this morning.

Archos will be releasing 5 new tablets, all based on Android 2.2. The tablets run in size from 3 inches to 10 inches, and in price from $100 to $350.

Wow - so good he said it twice, lol! They look interesting and appear well priced, but with WiFi only and no access to Android Market something tells me that, as in real life, it isn't the first wave but the sixth that's going to be the big one...

And of course, announcing that you're planning to ship something in two months and actually doing it require slightly different amounts of effort

Cheers, Pete.

That's odd..in 2 months Android 3.0 should be out-with some really nice Tablet support.

If they have the devices locked down so you can't add apps from the Android Market, that is a huge no-no. That is a show stopper...

The real first wave can not start until next year when Android 3 becomes available. Android 2.2 is a smartphone OS with a maximum display resolution of 800x480. Any tablet using it is more like a stretched smartphone with no phone, and probably other missing components as well.

The device is NOT locked down, but the Market is locked down to noncompliant devices (unless a bit of pirate hacking is done).

3 inches is more the size of a PDA than anything else, aye?

Well they will have 7" tablets too. The 3" ones work well for times when tiny is best.
