Several more mugs of tea today (I'm definitely going to have trouble sleeping tonight.) Two mugs worth of Lion Mountain Keemun while watching Lincoln on Blu-Ray. Finally.
Then, this evening, the beginning of the end of the curling season, with The Players Championship. This is an international "best of the best" event for both men's and women's teams and it's being broadcast on SN + CBC, so at least the weekend games will be available in much of the northern US. This year it's being broadcast from the completely renovated and rebuilt Maple Leaf Gardens, now part of Ryerson University in Toronto. Amazing what they've done with that historic building. It still has the iconic roof, but now the ice floor is much higher, since they've converted the area below (all 4 floors) to multi-use athletic facility. So the stands that are left were the old "nose-bleed" sections. But means it's wide enough for five sheets of curling ice without squeezing a bit. |

Chugging down a liter or two of 'Pocari Sweat,' of of Japan's more popular sports ion replacement drinks. Trust me, it tastes better than it sounds. I started walking fast at the same time as I turned on "A Pocket Full of Rye," and turned onto my street just as it ended. Almost two hours of up hills and down.... Maybe the bottle doesn't have any sweat but my clothes are soaking wet!

Good morning, all! Another beautiful day here in Paradise. The rains seem to have moved through, and while we might get some showers later, for the moment it's dry and sunny and about 8 degrees.
Thanks to ProfCrash, I now have a supply of the 2013 Edition of Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend. You'll remember that last year's was one of my favourites, and was based largely on a good 2nd flush Darjeeling. This years, however, is based largely on a China Black, Yin Jun Mei, which is often smoked slightly to make a high quality Lapsang Souchong tea. In addition to the Yin Jun Mei, we have some Ceylon and a healthy dose of Assam in the blend. So, below are my tasting notes that I posted to Peet's site this morning. Quote:

Coffee, with cream, in a travel mug.
I'm being lazy, as I wait for a call on when I have to leave and get started on a day of work. |

The timer just went off on mug number three. I may have an extra mug or two beyond my usual.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell Blue skies from pain Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in a war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl Year after year Running over the same old ground What have we found? The same old fears Wish you were here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j8mr-gcgoI ) Good morning everyone! |

in my cup: Ceylon tea(Al Otuor) from Kashgar, measured with a spoon and drank from a tea-cup bought in Bejing.
