In their attempt to stop a war in the Gillikin Country, Dorothy, Ozma, and Glinda are confronted by powerful magic and determined enemies. Their adventure takes them to an amazing crystal-domed city on an enchanted island, and for a time Dorothy and Ozma are prisoners in the glass city. Few of the Oz books equal this one in suspense and mystery—a story that is truly “out of this world.”

This was the last Oz book written by Baum, published posthumously.

Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 – May 6, 1919) was an American author chiefly famous for his children’s books, particularly The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels. He wrote 14 novels in the Oz series, plus 41 other novels, as well as many short stories, poems, and plays.

Even while he was alive, Baum was styled as “the Royal Historian of Oz” to emphasize the concept that Oz is an actual place. The illusion created was that characters such as Dorothy and Princess Ozma related their adventures in Oz to Baum themselves, by means of wireless telegraph.

For over a century, readers of all ages have loved these stories, and many of the Oz characters and situations have become a part of popular culture.
