Does anyone know if the Bebook mini will have the same hardware as the Pocket Pro EZReader?

From robertb's announcement of the Pocket Pro: "The Pocket PRO has the brand new EPSON controller and 400 MHz processor for almost instantaneous page turns."

I realize only Astak has the coloured ones (the blue is very nice... it had me drooling), but generally it's much cheaper to have something shipped within Europe, which is why I'm considering a boring black one from Bebook It will be interesting to compare when Astak get the shipping costs to Europe up and Bebook gets their price and shipping costs up as well.

Yes. They are both standard Hanlin V5's.

The Hanlin V5 is already available in some markets. There are recent pictures from an ePub on the V5 here.

Actually, with Calibre, you don't need Mobi support at all. Just ePub. Because you'll either have to buy DRM free Mobi or strip the DRM, Calibre can then convert to ePub easily. So Mobi is really a feature that's not needed at all if you have ePub support.

So end of next week then for release ? Endless Ideas seem to be playing it pretty cool, I haven't seen so much as a suggestion of release date on their site Bet the date slips.

Therefore the 5" should show smaller characters better than the 6".

People in the computer industry have "perverted" this definition and have come up with the term "display resolution" which is the same for both the 5" and the 6" at 800x600 but if you remember the old TV test screens with black lines on it, those were used to test the TV's resolution (i.e. the ability to resolve fine lines).
The computer industry has perverted a great many things, but it's probably best not to go there.

Or you could just say that the 5" displays exactly the same characters, but smaller.

Or you could just hold the bigger one 6" further away from your eyes, for exactly the same effect.

Or you could read the bigger one through a pair of binoculars, held the wrong way round, for even higher resolution.

Dear GreyCat:

Cannot even give you a hint; but please do not buy until tomorrow. I will have a pertinent word or two!

I just saw this on Astak.com

http://www.astak.com/2009_8_7.asp

The page is dated Aug 7th, 2009 (today)

Quote:
...The 5-inch Pocket PRO reader will sell at a promotional price of $199, and is now available for preorders online at www.theezreader.com and www.astak.com. The new devices are predicted to ship out by the end of August....
Does this mean a $30 reimbursement or credit towards books for those that have already pre-ordered at $229?

UPDATE
TheEZReader.com also lowered the preorder to $199 as well!!

Looks like Barnacle Bob took out his cutlass and successfully mutinied against the captain of the Astak ship! Heheh

A reduction in price already! Nice going RobertB!

I second Griffonwing on the $30 reimbursement or credit towards books for all of us that have pre-ordered.

Just a reminder and an announcement to this thread, please:

Reminder #1
I would like to remind all posters that this thread is specifically on the Bebook Mini. Let's all try to stay focused within the context of the original poster's information.

The Bebook Mini should be available shortly, according post #1, with new reports now indicating that the Mini should come in at under $200.

Reminder #2:
The arena for 5-inch Readers is heating up and that means competition for YOUR money. Please see specific threads for specific information concerning YOUR Reader of choice. Post appropriately, please.

Thank you.

Does this mean to quench the talk of the Astak Pocket Pro, or is that allowed seeing as how the actual device is the same, just different distributors?

Talk is not being quenched, but rather this is a reminder that this thread's topic is about the Bebook Mini. The Astak devices have a number of threads that are on-task for those device(s).

This Thread is specifically about the BeBook Mini.
