Doyle wrote a letter to an unidentified newspaper editor:
“Dear Sir: Will you allow me through your columns to warn your readers against a book called “Strange Secrets” which is being sold with my name upon the cover. Out of a large number of stories only one is mine— a very short one in the middle of the book. Yours faithfully, A Conan Doyle.
Later covers display “Told by A. Conan Doyle and Others”.

Are you sure "Mrs. Henry Clifford" is Elizabeth de la Pasture? She only married Sir Hugh Clifford in 1910 (after the book was published), and apparently the story was published as "Cousin Clifford's Chamber" (no secret), when she was 2 years old.
