Not quite sure what Sony SW is but any case the only software I have used is calibre and for the 6 months I have had it it has never left my timezone, well done on the analysis mind. I have performed a hard reset recently but to no avail. |

It is the software that comes with the reader. One reason to have used it is to register your 300 to read DRMed books.

Putting aside how the issue might arise, there is something you can do to help determine whether or not the date is the problem. The procedure will also give me a clue how to fix it (if it is indeed the problem). What I want to see is the reader's database entry for the book just after calibre sends it, and again after the reader has been unplugged so the the reader's software has a chance at it. If you have the time and energy, could you: 1) start calibre. Send a book. Remember the title. 2) stop calibre. Do not eject the device. 3) using a file explorer, go to the 300's memory/disk drive. Then go further to the folder 'database/cache'. There will be a file there named 'media.xml'. 4) Open the file media.xml with a text editor. If you are using windows, try using wordpad. Search for the book you just added. Copy the line (it is long) and paste it somewhere, perhaps a reply to this post. Close the file media.xml. 5) unplug the sony. Wait until it is happy, then plug it in again. 6) repeat step 4. If I am right, then the lines found in steps 4 and 6 will be different. The line saved in step 4 will have the author in 'author_sort' order. The line saved in step 6 will have the author in 'author' order. The dates on the two lines will differ. Thanks for your help! |

Well done that man, it seems as if there is a time difference...
Step 4 <xs1:text pageOffset="0" scale="0" sourceid="1" page="0" part="0" path="database/media/books/Marshall, Michael/Straw Men, The - Michael Marshall_250.epub" id="277" date="Sun, 22 Aug 2010 08:28:24 GMT" size="356574" title="The Straw Men" titleSorter="Straw Men, The" author="Marshall, Michael" mime="application/epub+zip"/> Step 6 <xs1:text author="Michael Marshall" page="0" pageOffset="0" part="0" scale="0" sourceid="1" id="222" date="Sun, 22 Aug 2010 07:28:24 GMT" tz="-60" mime="application/epub+zip" path="database/media/books/Marshall, Michael/Straw Men, The - Michael Marshall_250.epub" size="356574" title="The Straw Men"/> |

I know a way to provoke the problem, and I have an idea for a solution. I will get back here in a couple of days. |

Attached is a file that (I hope) fixes the problem timestamp problem. It is a new version of the Sony driver. If you are willing to try it, then download the attached file, unzip it, and put the unzipped file in the same folder as the current file sony_cache.pyo. On windows, that folder will be something like
C:\Program Files\Calibre2\Lib\site-packages\calibre\devices\prs505. The attached file should work with calibre 0.7.14 or 0.7.15. If the current file is sony_cache.py, please save a copy before overwriting it with the attached version. Let me know if you try it and if it works. If the answer is yes, then I will submit it to Kovid for release. Don't forget to remove the file before doing an upgrade of Calibre. |

First, thank you for your help. I couldn't make any progress on this problem without it.
Could you try this driver, and also make a debug log for me? If you are running windows, then the procedure is: 1. Open a command box (start, run, type 'cmd', push OK) 2. type 'cd \' (all typing is without quotes) 3. type 'calibre-debug -g > caldebug.txt 2>&1' 4. Calibre will open. Send a book to your sony. 5. Close calibre. Zip (or not) and post the file \caldebug.txt. 6. Delete the file \caldebug.txt 7. Do step 4 of the previous post. Post the result. 8. Unplug your sony. 9. Do step 4 again. Post the result. What I have noticed is that your Sony thinks that GMT is one hour behind where you live. One sees this by the 'tz="-60"' in the information a few posts back. I am trying to figure out how to use that information so your reader and calibre agree on the time. |

An equivalent fix will be in the next release. Turns out that the version posted above broke early PRS-505s, because they don't use 'tz='.
