(I searched, but I couldn't find that this information have been posted before. The only mention I found was that it was free on Smashwords 6 months ago, or something like that, which it isn't anymore.)

I just discovered that Joseph Robert Lewis offers the Burning Sky, book #1 in the Halycon triology for free on his webpage in epub, mobi and pdf. This made me happy, since I want to read more steampunk, and the series sounds cool. Not to mention it have been on my to TBB list for a long time .

Taziri had a promising career as an airship engineer and inventor until an explosion tore through the airfield, incinerating the fleet and killing most of the Air Corps. Now, Taziri is the only pilot left to help the marshals chase the killers across the skies of Marrakesh.

The investigation ranges across the country on steamships, atop racing locomotives, and into ancient tombs. I bought this for $0.99 at some point a while back and keep meaning to read it so thanks for the reminder about the book.

LOL, I see it has yet another different cover now, I think he's had like 4 or 5 different covers in the past year or two.

I can't get the mobi file to save properly. I get a bunch of data

Use right-click, save as.

He's coded the page incorrectly (or doesn't have the file extension info set up correctly on his web server ... or both).

Yes, unfortunately as far as I can tell, WordPress won't allow a proper download link, only an auto-open link. So you will have to Right-Click and Save As, as stated on the page.

It looks like it may be a ZIP file. So you might have to extract the book from that.

Hmm The ePub zip extracts into a bunch of unconnected HTML files.

That's what epubs are... zips of html files

Don't unzip it, just add to calibre. It worked for me. Thanks for the free book!

Yes, Frost is right, an Epub file is a collection of HTML and supporting files. No need to unzip it. It can be read by something like a Nook, or Adobe Digital Editions, or Calibre.

Question without notice. Are you ever going to be satisfied with your book covers?

I like these actually - they have a vintage fantasy look. Did you commission an artist or are these still public domain/creative commons images?

The covers are awesome.

You can tell by the signature alone. Other authors have covers in their signature as well, but they use too much black in their covers, so the entire signature looks like one black bar of blackiness, not very appealing.

Yours on the other hand are very nice, very distinguishable, stylish... only for "Bound Soul" the title is hard to read in the signature scale, contrast for the text is not as good as for the others, but that's a minor nitpick.

It's an ePub, you just need to change the extension (don't extract it). He doesn't have the mime types setup right on his web server (the Mobi tries to download with an HTM extension).
