Language support. I really don't understand, please comment
I have read on the official iRex forum:
"Which Languages does the iLiad support? Currently the iLiad supports: English, Dutch and Simplified Chinese. German, Korean, French and Spanish will be available shortly. Additional language support is planned in the future". http://forum.irexnet.com/viewtopic.php?t=4 But if I need Cyrillic language support, can I use iLiad right now? I know that interface will be on English, but I just need correct displaying of Cyrillic (Russian) text. As I understand rightly, it's enough to prepare PDF with embedded Cyrillic font. And iLiad will use this embedded font. Will it work? |

please post a pdf in question (e.g. your favorite example) and we can give it a try
What I heard in other posts in this forum, it should work - at least for PDFs. |

I would be very grateful if you could try to open this PDF (TrueType fonts) on your iLiad.
I uploaded files to my web site: http://www.wnsoft.com/test/Thurstmaster.pdf (400 KB) Screenshot how 2nd page should be displayed if all is OK: http://www.wnsoft.com/test/Screenshot_PDF.jpg (150 KB) And another PDF with Type1 font: http://www.wnsoft.com/test/SBLive51.pdf (600 KB) And screenshot: http://www.wnsoft.com/test/Screenshot_PDF_2.jpg (150 KB) If it will be displayed correctly it also means that current version of iLiad software can display any Western and Eastern-European languages in PDF. Thanks in advance! Last edited by Malder1; 08-15-2006 at 04:31 AM. |

I interpret it as 'support from the basic operating system': showing file names in Cyrillic, allowing user interface (device manager) to be in Cyrillic, etc. For PDF files, no support is necessary from the operating system, as long as the file has the proper fonts embedded, in a format supported by xpdf. But it is an xpdf implementation question entirely. In general, it will work. I don't think xpdf supports Type 3 fonts, though, so if you plan to use those, it probably won't work. |

I only have my webcam, so the picture quality is bad, but as you can see, the pdfs are shown very nicely on the iLiad, fonts are crisp and very well readable (If I now just could read those characters :-)

Thank you very much for checking up these PDFs and making photos!
Now I see that iLiad perfectly supports PDF files with any languages, including Russian symbols in embedded fonts. I'll order iLiad this evening after coming back to my home. |
