Cover graphics on Pandigital Novel
When I use the "Send to device" option in Calibre, it puts the cover picture in a ".thumbnail" subfolder. This is apparently wrong for this device; the cover file isn't recognized unless the B&N reader program finds it in the same folder as the .epub file. (Without a matching foobar.jpg alongside foobar.epub, it instead constructs its own "cover" from the first page of the .epub file.) Is there any way I can modify Calibre to place these files where they'll actually get used on the device?

That is the location the Kobo reader program needs.

I haven't installed the program yet on the main laptop (but sure made a mess of things on my small laptop) so I can't be of any help right now. Monday or Tuesday I hope to really get into the program and deal with some specifics.

Well, I don't see any mention of any "Kobo" program in the documentation, and the reader software doesn't identify itself except with "B&N" on the icon. I did do an upgrade to the software, but it's the official, authorized upgrade from Pandigital; I haven't "rooted" or hacked the device in any way. Perhaps different Pandigital models use different software?

Yes they do, and yours is identifying itself as the Kobo variant.

Okay, I do see that in the "Debug device detection" screen,
Spoiler:
but it still doesn't seem to be working the way Calibre expects it to. I took a closer look at the documentation, and did in fact find mention of a .thumbnail folder, but it doesn't seem to use the images unless I move them out of the subfolder before starting the B&N ("Kobo") app for the first time after loading the new books onto it. I have no explanation for this, and no clue why this should be.
I've also found that some books aren't using the cover files no matter where I put them, and are appearing with blank covers instead. Frankly, I'm stumped. |

You should ask Pandigital. As I dont have this device, I cannot really help you with it.

I wasn't really expecting you to; I was just hoping that maybe someone else here might have some insight into this device's quirks.
Speaking of which... I just tried "Remove matching books from device", and found that the cover files in the eBooks folder were removed, but the ones in the .thumbnails subfolder weren't. Curiouser and curiouser... |
