Request: Replace tags

Hi,

Thanks for Calibre, a great ebook management tool
I have 2 x Feature Requests.

1) Ability to Replace tags - e.g. replace all existing instances of tag named "Fiction - Science" with "Science Fiction"
2) Add the above Replace functionality to the Category Editor window.

This exists in release 0.7.2. Right-click on the tag in question, select rename, and name it whatever you want.

2) Add the above Replace functionality to the Category Editor window.

Not sure what you are asking for. If you want to edit tag names while defining user categories, then that isn't going to happen soon. Sorry...

Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of that functionality however you cannot rename a tag to have the same name as an existing tag. I need to delete the existing, unwanted tag and then add the wanted tag to the book(s). It would be easier if I could replace all instances of the unwanted tag with the wanted tag. Thus deleting the unwanted tag and adding the wanted tag in one step.

In 0.7.2, you can rename a tag to the same name as an existing tag. The same is true for all the other fields that offer a rename capability.

Another way to do it is to use what we did pre-7.x: Use the tag browser to select all books tagged "Fiction - Science", then do a bulk edit to delete tag "Fiction - Science" and add tag "Science Fiction". Editing tag names is a lot easier, though.

You would want to add the new tag first then delete the old tag.

I have done both in one step.

Filter on Old Tag, select all

Bulk Meta-data edit
delete old Tag, Add New (or existing name) tag

If you can find and use ALL the features or options within Calibre, you are Truly a Calibre expert.

I am not sure, I may have reached the 10% of Calibre feature use mark.
